Tire Pressue? 3 Years ago
Did not see anything on my searcdh about the amount of air in RS tires. I just installed two new Metzlers with the same size he Manual suggests. Had them installed at a local tire store for $10@. Had Nitrogen put n both.... local guys says 40 lbs front and rear...... that sound about right? jSomeone once told me that more air would give better tire life but harm handling... what say U Road Star Clinic? What say U?

The side of the tire will tell you all you need to know. It's different with the weight you have on it. Fully loaded for a 4 day trip I'm at 1240 on both tires 840 rear 400 front. With my tires it calls for 50 in the rear and 40 front. It's more a Tire thing then a bike thing all depends on the tire. You may have a 1960 Chevy but if you have radial tires on it the OM ain't going to tell you squat. But if you have exact factory tires, OM can help ya.

The manual says that on stock Bridgestones with tubes:36psi. on the front, and depending on the weight of the rider, 36 or 41 in the rear. I weigh over 200lbs. so 41 rear. I just installed Conti- Milestones and I run 38psi. front and rear. At the shop where I had them mounted, he charged me $40.00 on the bike. He said same air pressure as the Metzlers.

if the manual says a MAXIMUM pressure, donīt go above it. 50psi is getting into risky territory.

at those kind of pressures (around 18% higher than max front and rear) your contact patch is greatly reduced. not a good idea IMO.

i run max pressure (36, 42) solo with the rear preload on max. i tried the base settings, but with my style of riding a firmer rear makes the handling a bit better, but not at the expense of contact patch.

Tommy..... I have the Metzlers installed on my Roadie, and I run 42 front / 45 rear. The bike rides great, no cupping of the front tire at all.

Just my $1.95 ( adjusted for the cost of inflation )

36 front 40 rear has worked well for me on the dunlops and now on the pirellis as well. I'm mostly one up (210 pounds) and keep the suspension on the stiff side.

I believe Metzler recommends 38-40 front 44-46 rear one up and 40-42, 46-48 2 up. I run my ME880's 40 front 45 rear.

WRONG; the number on the side of the tire is the tire manufacturers maximum safe pressure for that tire. The motorcycle manufacturers recomended pressure is what counts. Metzler is the only tire manufacturer (that I know of) who recomends that you use a couple of pounds extra in their tires.
