I like scraping but only while turning left. If I lean her to hard on a right turn I hit my exhaust.

I know how to not scrape the boards....take em off!

I do confess that my right side forward control mount now has scuffs on that nice formerly virgin chrome and I can't imagine how that happened...

The turning raduis is about 18' or a little less. Sounds like your bike may be lowered. May have to adjust you style as others have said. I'm a pretty aggresive rider and have owned several Star models including a Liner and I don't see any problem with the Road Star model as far as clearance goes.
Hope this helps

perhaps one of the most beneficial things one can do is spend some time in a big old empty parking lot working on manoeuvering and getting comfortable at both slower and higher speeds. Push the limits and feel the sensation of dragging hard parts. If the first time you ever hear that sound it is in a crisis your day is probably gonna take a serious turn for the worse.

The confidence to handle your bike when the crap hits the fan will save you one day... Bank some confidence.... A few minutes a couple of times a week practicing emergency turns, tight cornering and hard braking seem like cheap insurance against the cages....
