Can you talk to me about the vented gas cap mod? Something I buy or something I do? At this point, I'm glad I'm not a smoker!

Click on the "Tech Articles" tab at the top of the page. There's a write up in there along with a bunch of other good Roadie info.

I see many are having problems with puking. I have about given up but would like to urge each of you to file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov.
The on-line form is simple and if everyone who has a puking problem would do the same, Yamaha would be forced to do something. Feel free to copy and paste my complaint.
“Fuel (gasoline) is sprayed from rear port of carburetor. As much as 2 oz. may be emitted and sprayed on hot exhaust pipes and engine. The fuel is immediately vaporized. This only seems to occur when the engine is hot, then shut off and allowed to sit for approximately 15 minutes. It does not spray liquid gas if immediately started or if allowed to cool. First reported in August 2008. Problem is frequent"
But unless there are a number of complaints, no action will be taken. You will need your VIN. This problem is a fire hazard and a potential EPA concern

Nothing wrong with filing a complaint. It might be a good idea too. I have heard/read that the problem is pretty common with all air cooled carburetor bikes from any manufacture. They may or may not know about it. It would appear they have resolved it on the new bikes with the EFI though. I am sure someone will correct me if they have that issue and have EFI.

Just finished filing my complaint and while I was there, I searched the database and found 11 other complaints of the same type although I was only searching for 2005's.
I am wondering... if they decide to do something about the problem, how much of a fiasco will it be if you have made any carb and airbox related modifications to the bike. Cant wait to see

Filing with the NHTSA was tried for SVS and Puking 2 or 3 years ago. Never heard about anything happening from it. Except possibly that 1700 SVS PDF from 07. Look how bad they mess up peoples bike doing the tranny recall. Do we really want Yami messing with everyone's bikes? It scars me to think of what Yami would come up with as a cure for puking.

A truer statement was never spoken! Probably would place carb inside tank so it would puke back into tank.

...My question is: what is the best way to get the bike restarted so you and the lovely wife can get back home before the children do??
Best way IMO... hold throttle wide open and crank the starter; common response for a flooded carburetor of this type setup. She'll fire up pretty quick so watch revving her too high; be ready to back off. This really saves the battery.
