Front end chirping?? 3 Years ago
I jst got back from a 4 hour ride and noticed that I was getting a chirping noise from the front of my bike. It would stop when the bike came to a stop and it seemed to be consistant with the speed I was going. I'm guessing it has something to do with the front wheel or something, but again I know nothing about bike mechanics. Any ideas? I wouldn't mind trying to save money and fix it myself but if I should take it to the dealer or shop please let me know.

Get it up on a lift and see if you can isolate the source. You can use a small tube (hose) ... put one end to your ear and move the other end around as you turn the wheel.

Do a search on belt tension if your rear belt is tight it may sound like it is coming from the front end. Also if it is under braking they tend to have chatter

The belt will chirp when it's loose , mostly on deceleration and it will sound like it's coming from the front left

One of the guys had a squeak that was caused by the gas tank bushings. Remove your tank, apply wax or soap to the rubber bushings that the tank mounts to at the backbone and re-install the tank.

You might check the seals where the axel spacers fit. Check spacers to see if there is rubber build up on them if so clean spacers and lube the seal area with antiseeze. this happened to my bike. good luck Ben

When your riding put your hand over the headlight. Mine had the squeek noise coming from the headlight.

Re:Front end chirping?? 11 Months, 4 Weeks ago
I have read about "chirping" on decel & belt tension as the cause. My '07 Silverado (7000 miles) has chirping, but it occurs when going up through the gears when the engine is not loaded - that is, when I accelerate after shifting, then back off the throttle 'til the engine is under no load, but am not decelerating either - make sense? I have no tach, but would guess the rpm's are in the middle 1/3 of the range. To the rider ( me) it sounds like "chirping" but to the passenger (my wife) it sounds more like a "fluttering" squeak (she's more poetic than me). When I punch it, or back off the throttle altogether, the sound quickly disappears. It is not rotational (wheels) but related to rpm - running Mobil 1 20-50 Synthetic - any ideas?

The 'normal' chirping is a result of the supsension compressing, which 'shortens' the belt and causes it to chirp.

You can also get a simliar noise from the white rollers beside the front pulley used to stop the belt from jumping the gear.

First check both out ..
- tighten the belt to spec
- lub or remove the white roller.
