drive pulley nut 2 Years, 11 Months ago
I have ordered the 31 tooth pulley from Baron's and expect it to arrive in the next few weeks (back ordered item) and I have been assembling the tools etc that I need to do the job. Pulled the cover and looked at the pulley nut. Baron's say it is a 32, and most of the posts I looked at say the same, but it is a 30 (and I found a post that confirms this is so on the 06 and later). So I will look for a 30 mm socket for this and will likely visit a mechanic friend to use his impact driver to remove it. But I noticed there isn't a lock washer on the stock set up, like the diagram in the manual, but rather a collar on the front of the nut that fits in a sort of key-way on the shaft. So will I ruin the nut or the shaft if I remove it? Does that collar pry off or something? I know Barons includes a lock washer in the kit, but I haven't heard anyone mention this set up before. Thanks and I'm looking forward to the forward surge promised by this loss of a tooth.

There is a lock tab that is bent to hold the nut in place. I used a large cresent wrench to take mine off and it wasn't all that tight.

If you are taking off and changing that pulley buy the nude pulley set up. You will never go back!

Great. I guess the tab that fits into the key-way slot is pliable, and you just bend it up. Then when re-installing you use the lock tab washer behind the nut. Has anyone used a SAE 1 3/16" for the 30mm? The metric sockets, large ones anyway, seem to be hard to come by around here, but there are lots of used SAE around. According to calculations the 1 3/16 should be pretty close to a 30mm.
thanks again

you might as well buy the right socket. First it cuts down on the chances of screwing things up. Second if you are like most of us you will have that pulley off more than once for some damn reason!

I had zero trouble getting mine off. Then again my dad always said I have more strength than brains. he was right.
