I'll bet you hung the nut in the intake valve. If it held the valve open you would get that smoke and because the valve wasn't pushing back against the rocker arm, it might have made some of the noises you heard (think huge amounts of valve lash). There isn't enough room in the combustion chamber for a m-6 nut without making some dents (somewhere around here is a thread on sucking a srew in the cylinder). Maybe it's still in the valve. I'd be taking it apart tonight..
