Manifold Porting 5 Years, 2 Months ago
Was thinking of porting my manifold, basically rounding off the corners, as I have read about here and other places. However, a NoPork thread mentioned I would need to re-jet if I did this. Is this true?? Not happening if I have to re-jet.

Not positive on this, but my understanding is that any time you change the way your engine breathes in, you must rejet to compensate for the different air/fuel mix entering the motor. I'm sure one of the experts here can give you better info. Good luck!

Hey bru

What else have you done besides pipes? From what I understand porting makes you richer.

Only pipes. From what I understand it gives a better flow of both into the carb. Once it's in the manifold it's already mixed.

If all you've done is pipes and you don't want to jet I wouldn't bother with it.

I'm running a ported manifold with stock jetting and a R/H 2/1 pipe. Airbox is drilled though. Here's how it feels:

BEAR, I have also drilled the air box. Did you do the porting or buy one? Feel any difference, was it worth it?

I didn't port mine until I put the BAK on. I wouldn't do it unless you do an air cleaner. Take from me jetting can be REAL FUN!

I bought the barons stock ported.Yes , I personally feel it was worth it. Yes I could "feel" it (seat of pants meter). Anytime you can "bolt-on" a HP or 4 in about 2 hours time, its worth it.

bru--

I'll let you know...just got done porting mine, and I dropped in a smaller DJ 170 jet size to make up for the added richness the manifold. She's almost ready to ride...I'll let you know my review! And if you have a Dremel, do it yourself...save the $140.
