Anybody have a Zune/IPOD? 2 Years, 11 Months ago

Hey fellas,
My wonderful wife is going to get me either a Zune or an Ipod for fathers day, and I can't decide which one is better? Does anybody have either one of these? Also, I don't have any CD's and I will have to get all my songs from online downoading websites. Does anybody know of a good safe place to download songs? I have also heard that there are some free websites also. What do ya'll think? Thanks for the help,
CJC

I've had a Zune ever since they came out over two years ago. I've never had any problems with it, use it every day at work and it sounds much better than the Ipods I've checked out.

I have an ipod shuffle..I've gone through 3 of them.(probably cause I only use it at the gym...sweat + electronics= problems) I always get the insurance with it, like $10, and have it replaed for free.
I would look at getting it from costco, since they back all of thier products and let you return with no problem
I havent heard of anything bad about the zune....seems you will get more for your money with the zune ,over buying the ipod though

I have a Sandisk Sansa e280 and am very happy with it...MicroSD card slot, FM radio (which I use with my Garmin GPS so I can hear it inside the helmet). But, that's not what you asked...
FWIW, check to see if the ipods still use a non-replaceable battery--you used to have to return your ipod to Apple to get the rechargeable battery replaced when it finally gave out, and it was EXPENSIVE. I've heard good things about the Zune, though, and the rechargeable battery is user replaceable, I believe.

I work in a factory with a lot of background noise. I've used other people's Ipods and they don't go loud enough to hear the music as well as I like. With the Zune I often need to turn it down. I wear a pair of Bose headphones, I can hear things I've never heard before in music I've been listening to for many years all while being in a noisy enviroment. The Zune battery is not designed to be replaced by the user tho in over two years of use I haven't noticed any decline in the amount of time a charged battery lasts.

The man at best buy told me they never have problems with the zune but the ipod's are always being returned. The zunes are more user friendly and they have an FM radio also! Ear phones are some of the best I've heard with great volume and clarity.

Like Roadkill I have a Sansa, excellent unit for much less money than the big names and has a built in FM tuner. I use it continuously at work and usually get two days out of the battery before I have to recharge it. With the Ipod I believe you have to use Itunes to load your music, with others it's drag and drop with good ol Windows. I'm not a big fan of Apple and their pricing so I can't really give a good opinion on them.
I used to use Limewire to get my music for "free" until it got to the point 99% of what I downloaded had a virus of some type attached. Rhapsody looks like a good deal and easy to use.

Go to your local library for Music CDs, all you need is a library card. Rip to your laptop, download to your MP3 player. No virus problems that way.
