I'll take a compliment from anyone, anytime as long as it's from the heart. Matters not to me that their head has it wrong. Like gifts at Christmas, it's the thought that counts.

But I agree, how is it you have no clue about the brand you ride??

I used to correct everyone; "No, its a Yamaha Roadstar." Now, I just don't give a damn, I know what I've got, enjoy my ride, all I ever have to do is change the oil, re-rubber every year or so, and put gas in the tank every couple of 'hundred miles. I don't need a trailer to get my bike any place; I ride my scoot and don't have to worry if I'll get there or not. It looks good for an '02 with 60K on it. I keep it clean and polished because it is like going to church; I don't always feel like doing it but I'm glad I did once I'm in to it.

Last weekend, the wife & I went to a local Bar-B-Q restaurant for supper. (That's dinner for you folks up north). Anyway, as we were leaving, I was wating on the wife to come out & went ahead & cranked the bike. As I was putting my helmet on, a couple pulled into the space next to us & got out of their car. When this 'fella walked by me he said "That's a nice Harley." I just said "Thanks." Most people just don't have a clue. The name Harley has become generic the same way my father used to call every refrigerator a Kelvinator. And I'm not

Mr.C you have it right. There are a lot of want-to-be-bikers out there. They think because they went and spent the money on a harley that they are a biker! Well guess what I don't think so! What your running into is the fact that Harley has done a tremendous job of getting people to relate the word "Motorcycle" with the word "Harley" You just have to ignore these individuals comments and just say Thanks! If you want to get back at them try saying "Hey is that one of those rice burners your on?" Just play dumb it's funny trust me!!LMAO!
They might learn one day the difference. We have a motorcycle rally here in Laughlin Nevada in April. I can not tell you how many people have asked me, "Are you going to the Harley Rally?" It's like no I'm going to the Laughlin River Run which is a motorcycle rally not a harley rally!! I have given up on trying to educate people. I now just smile and say yep that's where I'm going this weekend.

A soft drink is a Coke... (in the south)
A starter drive is a Bendix...
A pipe wrench is a Stillson...
An adjustable wrench is a Crescent...

And a Road Star is a Harley.

Too funny Mr.C,I could see a non-rider doin it,but a guy that actually owns one

In truth I think our bikes look alot differant:
Right side more like an Indian, short primary
and gear driven.

Left side like the old Crocker motorcycles,
one large push rod tube for each cylinder holding
two push-rods. my 2c

ya got yer left and right sides mixed up..now I can see a Harley rider...

and dont forget the mirrors...a dead give away...

I actually had a guy ask me the other day what mine was. That wasn't the funny part.
When I told him, he asked if they come that way from Yamaha...

Sometimes, I just want to shove my foot up their ........

I just say thanks and if they persist in knowing exactly what kind of HD I got. Then I explain this is a 48 degree 4 valve per cylinder air cooled overhead vavle roadstar by Yamaha . I even had a guy who owns a custom chopper shop tell me how I had a 43.5 degree twin and HD sued yamaha over it. I just laughed inside because everybody know that was the Honda Shadow ACE 1100 . I thought and you want me to trust your knowledge to sell me a bike ha ha. hey i did get a thumbs up from the local hard core MC but I think it was because I had my fishing pole sticking out the saddle bag and wobbling in the breeze
