I hate to bring this up, but search the forum for SVS (sticky valve syndrome), which occasionally crops up on the rear cylinders of the 1700 engines. Some folks have experienced it and have found ways to solve it, both temporarily and seemingly permanently.

I have no personal experience with it yet (thankfully), otherwise I might offer something more solid.

Good luck.

Check your rear spark plugs too. Might just be a little carboned up and need to replace. Maybe run some Seafoam through a tank as well to clean out the carbon causing the plugs to foul.

This is what I do when this happens to me.

This would probably be catagorized as a temporary fix.

Sorry to hear that as I was hoping it'd just be fouled rear plugs.

If in fact it is SVS, here's a link to Curt's info on a cure:

http://roadstarclinic.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,187/func,view/id,204211/catid,51/

I'm sure a fellow boarded can chime in on SVS as a few here have experienced it first-hand.

Good luck Carl and don't give up. You'll have it running strong in no time.

If you regularly let it sit and idle for that long I'm guessing you do have carbon build up. Especially if you have the choke on at the same time.

I have to agree with Musky about your letting it idle so long. That's a good way to get SVS in the long run and foul you plugs quick in the short run. These girls like to be run at higher rpm's and blown out often.

When I start her up, I just wait a few seconds to let the oil push through the system and then off I go. I do keep the choke on for a block or two before pushing it about halfway in and then completely in about another mile or so. She can be cold blooded, so for that first mile I keep to lower gears than I would if she was warmed up so it wont choke and sputter. Interestingly, I get a lot less of the choke and sputter by not letting it idle with the choke on like that. I think the plugs get fouled from it right away, so I just don't do that anymore.

Get some seafoam in her and go for a long ride. Hit the limiter often. If that doesn't help immediatly, follow Curt's recommendations about how to spray the seafoam directly into the carb for cleanup. Then change those plugs and ride her harder.

Ratl.
