2007 vs 2008-09 2 Years, 7 Months ago
I am new here and have been looking to buy a Roadstar. I have found a good deal on a 2007 with low miles. I was wanting an 08/09 because of the FI. The last bike I had (HD) the carb gave me problems and was in the shop alot. How dependable is an 07. Would it be worth spending the extra money on a 08/09?

Thanks

These bikes aren't perfect but most of the running issues come from the riders. They either can't leave well enough alone, start messing with things without finding out how to do it first, Or don't want to put forth the effort to do it right. But if you want EFI then go for it. It's a long term investment and you don't want to feel like you settled for something you didn't really want or have any worries while your riding. My .00002 anyway.

Welcome.

I have a 2005 I left stock. Have had no carb issues in 34,000+ miles. In fact, until last week, I have had no issues whatsoever. Dropped her off this morning to have the service dept check out my fuel sending unit (in the gas tank). When she starts, she runs like a top...a rather fast and sexy top at that.

Hey bassfishman
Muskys right on.
I personally prefer the carb on the Road*. I'm sort of OLD school, I like the single carbs. Some prefer the fuel injection, over the carb. Mainly a personal thing though. If I had a multi carbed bike, I would prefer fuel injection. I do have two bikes with 4 carbs, and I wish they were fuel injection.

I have 2 friends who bought the FI 08s I have an 05 and can't leave it alone I've rejeted, ported the manifold put an adjustable PMS screw in and really haven't had any problems that were hard to fix.
My take is with a carb if you break down on the road you can fix it easily with FI your screwed
I will say it is cool that my friends 08 he just fires it up and rides away while I am choking and warming up
Performance wise I can't tell the difference.
There is less options for pipes and FI electronics on the FI R*'s

I commute daily on my totally stock '07 and have about 3k now. I experience stop and go and both hot & cold weather and have had no issues what so ever. FI is nice and might make the bike run a little better at start-up after that I don't know you would notice any difference. My last bike, a beemer, was FI. I've mastered the right amount of choke to get me going in all conditions and really, it's no big deal now. I bought my bike because it was a new leftover and I got a huge discount over an '08. Not sorry I bought it and would make the same deal again. BOL

Same here, I bought an 07 left over late last fall, I have 6,000 miles on it now and not an issue with the carb. There are a few mornings when it would be nice to have the FI because I, like many others, forget to push the choke all the way back in after a few minutes. I would love to have an automatic choke like on cars!

Either bike, your getting a good base, the RS! How good of a deal are they giving you? I got the 07 sliverado late last fall for $9999.

I decided to past on a leftover '07 to get the FI on an '08. No huge reason for that both are reliable if you can resist fixing something that ain't broke. The EFI is nice on startup and at high altitude. Also if you add aftermarket pipes and BAK you don't have to rejet or do anything to the fuel system, the computer adjusts for it. There again though for a reliable ride either one will do just fine. Enjoy!

Hey Darn, I got mine for $9500 and change out the door too. Glad I bought it before the increase in sales tax here in Calif, some counties are paying 10% now! Can't wait for smog testing to hit someday. Now I'm spending the extra money I saved on the bike on OEM accessories. BOL

I am looking at a used 07- non S with 3400 miles and he wants 7k for it. I can get an 08 S with 0 miles for 9999.00

Do you think the Chrome, FI and Zero miles is worth 3k?
