rear tire 5 Years, 2 Months ago
Howdy, Just changed my rear tire on my 05road* from stock 150 to metzler ME880 160/80-16. Love the feel. Ride is smoother and feels more connected in curves. May be something to check out when it comes time to change rear tire. No modifications needed

I thought about doing what you did. Will give it a go next change over. What PSI are you running in front and rear?

Just did my 05 R the same. The feeling is mutual. Best tires I ever ran.

Me too went to them the first tire change but didn't go to the 160 rear yet. That will be next change.

OK. What's the cold hard advantage to going to a 160? Ain't much wider on a stock rim. Contact patch probably isn't enough different to notice. They say it helps get the speedo closer to correct but if the correction problem I asked about is true it will make your odo wrong at the same time. Just trading problems there. My curiousity about these bikes knows no bounds so any answers are appreciated.

34 front 36 rear. While the 160 isn't much wider it does have a wider contact patch. Have some fine sand in driveway so i can see wider residue on tire. Staying with the approx same tire height will keep speedo the same. Height, not width, changes speedo. Lows in the mid 60s, high mid 70s today, fixing to go riding.

Morning snag

The wider tire (160) gets squeezed by the stock rim making it a little taller therefore helping to correct the speedo error. Or that is the prevailing story. Has anyone ever measured the 150 and the 160 to see? Metz makes a 150 WWW but not a 160 WWW. Do you gain enough contact to make it worth not having a WWW if that's what you want?

Thanks

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/03/25 08:35

Good point Muskey, some say it handles better but I would be hard pressed to see the difference I think. May the went from Bridgestones to Metzers that you can tell the difference.
