Just got back from a ride with them. Let's just say I am going to have A LOT of trouble getting her out of the neighborhood @ 4 in the morning. They are louder than I thought they would be.

I keep thinking about the exhaust "baffles" I guess you would call them on my old Honda 300 Dream. Right at the end of the pipe was basically a big washer on a swivel. Sorta worked like a butterfly with a hole in it. You could flip the washer so it covered the end of the pipe and made it quieter because all there was for the exhaust was the hole in the washer. If you wanted that monster motor to scream you flipped the washer up so you had the "open" exhaust. So to speak. Kinda. Anmyway it worked. Wouldn't be that hard to do on the after market pipes. Draw bcak is after you get out of the neighborhood you would have to stop and swivel the washer out of the way.

Any ideas to do this would be appreciated, because they probaly won't last too long if I cannot figure something out. If there is a place for an idea, I know I am at the right place. Thanks.

I'm thinking now of weighted washers. The weight on the bottom would keep them down with low RPM's (like going through at 4 AM) and when you cracked the throttle the exhaust would swivel them open. It would be like the caps on top of semi tractor exhaust sort of. But you would have a round bar going horizontally through the end of the pipe with the butterfly like washer attached to the bar.

My home made glasspac baffles tone the sharp crack down to a low rumble but when ya get on it boy do they sound NICE. I want to get rid of the sharp crack sound for a more mellow sound. You can use the baffles that came with the pipes to modify. There is also a thread on here that some one else did something like I did. If you don't have a welder and cut off tool you can use his mod. I'll see if I can't find it for you.

Is there some sort of slip on you can use to muffle those throats until you get out of your neighbourhood?

Yes, I know what you mean. I put HK 3" staggereds on and found them way too loud. Tried to come up with something that could be changed from mild to wild and back again with a single tool but ended up welding a perforated 3/4" x 10" conduit into the stock baffle. It still seems loud when you get on it or climb a steep hill but I can cruise through town or along the highways without drawing too much attention from the law. I think it will still set off car alarms when you get on it.

I remember those selectable baffles they were called "Snuff or Not". They sounded like crap when you had them closed, but open they were great I had them on my 450 Honda and it kept me out of trouble with the local Police, at least most of the time. They did have big clunky knobs that stuck out, but they could quiet the beast when needed. I think there could be a cleaner device created to accomplish the same thing. Those early morning departures are a challenge in a quiet neighborhood.

The HK's look great, maybe the next set!

Hey Curt,

Care to elaborate on your glasspac baffles. I work in a machine shop, have access to multiple machines and a welder. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
