1in vs 1 1/4in ape 2 Years, 10 Months ago

hey guys first i went risers, then i went risers and beach bars, then i put apes on my sportster and guess what...now i need apes on my roadie hah
question is i can get 1 inch apes for not very much and the same apes in 1 1/4 are a hundred bux more
so really i guess i just want opinions, has anyone on here put on 1inch apes and really really regretted it?
how was running internally with the 1 inch, ive done a few harleys internal but i hear we have a few more wires than harleys on the left hand side
i found a few different 14 inch apes that i really liked i just cant decide diameter now...and i know i know i should go bigger but im 5'6 and ive ridden bikes with 16 inch apes and they are just a little too high feeling for me

Its not bad running the wiring inside 1" bars, as long as you stagger the splices.

I did the 1 1/4 inch bars because of the T-Bars that I had before the Apes. I was used to the thickness of them compared to the stock bars 1" size. I was just convinced that I didn't want to go back to 1" bars and I was worried about fishing the wires through internally as well. The Seller's name is socalpremier, he sells Apes of all thickness on a website and every-bodies favorite auction site. His prices are better on the Bay, but doesn't always keep them on the auction block.

Go for the bigger ones. I had 1 inch on my old bike for over a decade and have 1.25 on the R*...internal wiring is easier and they look better on the roady than 1 inch IMHO. In the long run you will be happy you spent a little extra. Mine are 16s on stock risers and internal wiring.

Yep...that's where I got mine, from same seller, but off eBay. Bananas!
They're supposedly for a VTX, and the area that reduces to 1" for the risers is wide enough (wider, actually) to fit our 4.5" on center risers, where all the Harley bars were too narrow in that area as they are made for the 3.5" on center risers. Do a saved search on eBay or check his site daily...SoCal had them posted for about an hour and a half for $68 "Buy It Now" with $20 shipping when I snagged them. In Texas, we used to call that a "sore peter deal"...ya just can't beat it... HEAVY (14 lbs.) great quality bars!
Now, after 11 months of being out of work, I just need a job to be able to afford the cables...
I have the 1" mini ape HD bars on there now, and I too fished the wires through the bars. PITA, but it can be done...

Personally i would go with the 1 1/4 inch because they look and feel cooler. I had a 1 inch 12 rise and i ended up changing. I found they just werent screaming SCREW YOU enough LOL
I also have heated grips which adds 3 wires per side to cram through that little hole and pull through so wouldnt have been able to with smaller bars.
I just like big fat bars

i definitely love the 1 1/4 they are just far more expensive than 1 inch....
part of me figured i could do one inch bars for now for cheap, get myself the cables and maybe even a little longer than i need so i could jump to a higher bar if i liked them later on
I also cant decide between 1 1/4 and 1 1/2, so im also thinking i can make this a cheaper two part project than a really expensive one part project
if i do 1 inch i my not even run internally since itll be a temporary ordeal until i know what i really want as it is, to be honest i saw those carlini gangster bars on here in that other thread and i started drueling a little bit, but gotta save my pennies for those
