Yep it running rich 3 Years, 10 Months ago
Well I finally got around to pulling off the carb, wow what a pita, any ways I found a 175 main jet and the pms was 1/2 turn out.
I am putting a 170 jet in it and I got the baron pms so I can adjust it. Figure I'll start at 3 turns out and work my way in.
I wonder why the PO jetted 2 sizes up for longshots, it running stock carb and air cleaner. Some peoples children I guess.
Wonder if I'll get better than 35mpg now.
I'll finish up tomorrow and take it out for a ride.

He was probably either told to it by the %#$&! dealership or had them take care of it for him. Your PMS at just 1/2 turn surprises me. But I guess that was to make up for the larger jet. Sheesh. Normally 2 - 2 1/2+ is more common. Let us know the results of your fix.

In CA depending on your elevation you might even be able to go to a 167.5 main. Keep in mind that your crusing is done mostly on the needle so you should take a serious look at where it is set. Do you have the OEM needle? Bet you do.

Another suggestion would be to check the float level while you have the carb off the bike........just a thought.

Thanks for all the good reply's.
I am in Riverside and wanted the 165 and the 167.5 because my system is stock but they were no available.
The float level is right on perfect as per the clymers.
I do have the stock needle in the carb and I'm running the stock air cleaner.
I took it for a spin with the 170 and the PMS set at 3 turns, it ran better than it did before but still has a very slight hesitation when like in 5th a 65 and do WOT. It's only for a 1 second then picks right up.
I got back home, took off the air cleaner and fired it up.
I turned the PMS in to 1.5 turns out and the idle picked up so I continued to turn it in waiting for the idle to stumble- it never did, even when the PMS is all the way in.
I'm thinking this means I have an vacuum leak in the intake system but I'm not sure that is the correct assumption.
Well I'm going to put PMS at 2 turns and run it 100 miles and see what my mileage is.
The thing is - it runs good, I mean the idle is great, does not pop back thru the carb ever and does not ever pop back thru the exhaust either.
If the mileage is decent I should probably just leave it be before I screw it up
