Just did the flip and lowered the ass end. Love the look. Followed the tech tips and it worked out great. Haven't had the chance to ride it yet as its been pouring all day. I attempted to pull off the lowering without removing the rear wheel but I just couldn't get the tools in there from the bottom. It really is no big deal to take the rear apart. I had much more room to work and I was able to polish up the rim and spokes very easily while it was off.

Might be a good idea to crank up the preload a bit. Especially if you are on the 'big guy' side.

It's a bit of a soft ride when lowered and it somemtimes bottoms out.

You may also get a squeek on decel which means the belt needs to be tighten up. The distance between the front and rear pulleys shortens when the bike is lowered.

Thanks Doc...Already took care of both. I'm the kind of guy who researches the hell out of everything before I do it, but advice is always welcome. Hopefully I'll get to test her tonight if the rain holds off.

Hey Yamahawg, I'd love to see pictures if you get a chance - also, I'm considering for my Road* as well and would love to hear what you think when you get it on the road.

Thanks Galban! I love the way she rides now. Being lower is much more comfortable for me. You have to make sure you tighten the preload on the rear shock absorber, but from your picture, it appears you ride 2up. You may want to consider changing to a heavy duty spring. The instructions for that are also in the tip section. You can get a 900lb spring for around $80. I will be posting "real pictures" of my ride within the next week or so.

I slammed my bike. I got the longer dog bones and did the flip. I'm only 5'-7" so it works for me. I did get a heavier spring so when I ride with my wife the bike won't bottom out. The reley arm didn't require as much grinding with the longer dog bones.

Hey Yamahawg, I'm also curious - did you lower the front-end as well? Thanks for the advice on the heavier spring, riding 2-up is the reason I've been hesitant to do the flip. I'm also curious what the heavier spring/more preload does to the ride of the bike. Guess I got a lot of ????s

Hey Galban! No front lowering, just the rear. Tightening the preload or replacing the spring gives the bike a stiffer ride. You lengthen the shock in the flip which is relatively the same as loosening the preload. So to compensate you must tighten it back up a bit. But now you can only tighten it up so much. Thats where the heavy duty spring comes in.

Doesn't it just totally suck when your'e dying to try out new goodies and it just won't stop raining? Hope you get some dry weather to try her out man.

I did the same by grinding and flipping the bone on my '06 1700. However, when my wife and I ride and sometimes when I'm by myself cornering a little too fast, my Cobra pipes drag and makes a sound like the engine fell on the ground! Really scared my wife too. I called JP about their kit and asked if it lowered the same amount as I was looking for a little less lowering and they said it's about the same (1 1/2&quot and they don't recommend doing it by flipping the bone and said it created a geometry problem. Maybe they want to sell something, maybe not. Seems to me that flipping lowered my bike more than 1 1/2". More like 2 1/2".

Anyway, after stiffing the preload the jolt from hitting a pothole is too much to bear and about knocked mine and my wife's teeth the other night.

How much do you guys think flipping the bone lowered your bike? If it's more than what an aftermarket kit does, I'm switching. I really like how it looks and rides otherwise, but dragging the ground around right handers is too scary for me too.

Forgot to mention I also installed an 1/8&quot; washer in front of each of the rear fender lower mounts to raise the fender slightly and the tire/fender curves are about perfectly matched now. Saw that on V-Twin TV.<br><br>Post edited by: sjh55, at: 2007/03/29 20:31
