Got my bike back today. They put a new fuel pump in it. Now it's just a matter of time to see if that does it. It's so intermittant I might not know for a while. Hopefully this will take care of it. I'll keep you all informed.

Re:Carb Pukeing-Update 5 Years, 2 Months ago
My 2004 just started doing the same thing after shuting it off hot then restarting it some time later. Seems to me to be a float issue. After sitting for a while and turning the key on the pump, pumps like mad to refill the bowl (I assume the gas boiled off) and once full it pukes. Seems to me if the float come up and pushes the needle closed this should not happen. Unless the fuel presure is getting to high and the float and needle can't hold it back.

Anyone know if the float is plastic? Wonder if the plastic is getting hot and flexing untill enough cool fuel is pumped through to make the plastic more rigid?

Float is a plastic like material but I don't think it flexing it is fairly hard amterial just for that reason.

DEWAYNE, that is the theory the dealer and I are going with right now. Both of us went thru the carb and made sure it was fine. Since the only constant when this happens is the fuel pump doesn't shut down, we are thinking that a back pressure sensor in the fuel pump isn't working right and that the needle valve just can't hold back the pressure. When I first brought this up to them they had not yet heard of this, they kind of dismissed it, and it was so intermittant they could never see it do this. Since then another customer has brought his bike in and it actually did it several times to the mechanic. They also had a regional meeting and the subject was brought up but no one had an answer. At this point my mechanic has decided to just keep throwing parts at it to get it fixed. First was a new fuel pump. Hopefully that's it, don't know what we would try next. He seems hell bent to fix it. He's excited about possibly being the guy to fiqure it out. If it turns out to be the fuel pump I'll bet there's a recall. Worst case scenerio from this problem could be a bike-b-que, possibly personal injury, and very large law suits.

I just placed a reply to one of the other topics in this forum on puking. The service department here says it's the winter gas. I can see this as possible but still think there needs to be a fix before one goes up in flames!

Winter gas my ass!! It does it in the summer too. And no matter when it does it, it shouldn't. Been riding today and the bike feels great. Didn't puke and it was all stop and start. Man I hope this does it..

Hope it's good bru. Too many of our people are having problems. Glad to see one up and running. So did they put a new pump on?

Pumps on, it feels great. Seems a bit smoother on throttle. The pump doesn't click near as much as it used to when you turn the key. It's wait and see now. Told the mechanic I would call him in a month. The weather is getting nice and I'm riding everyday so I should know.

Yup me too! Once in a while mine will puke gas from the carb all over the engine. It happened last season after climbing a mountain pass two-up. We stopped to enjoy the view and I noticed a puddle. It was about 85 or 90 F. I seemed as if the gas was boiling in the carb!

And a strong gas smell after riding has become almost normal. I have done no modification to my engine other than the stage one exhaust(with eight 1/2" holes per pipe). I will to talk to my dealer about these things and let you know the outcome. I think we all should be letting our local dealers know. If they don't know about the problem, how can they fix and it?

Regards
Ricker

I know I wrote a reply to this string a couple of days ago, but must have messed up and did not post it
The Winter Gas idea is no good, as my puking issue started in July, with a totaly stock scooter, 06 R*. I live in south Florida where winter gas is unknown, as our temperatures never go low. At any rate the issue may be faulty pump sensor and I will be going to the dealer for a fix.

All I know is it happens on a lot of R*'s of various years, and the issue is dangerous. If they will not fix it I at least will run a longer hose from the overflow to the ground, so it does not spill out on me and the hot exhaust.

Any ideas how we can assemble this data together from the various owners and get some attention from Yamaha motors?
