Re:HK's are on! 5 Years, 2 Months ago
Hello all...
First post on this forum.... hope it gets thru..

I've had my HK's on for about a year now and have tried several methods to take that sharp bark out... The crumb cups and my own version (drilled plates at the outlet side of the baffles) It helps but it still sounds harsh at low speeds.
Doc sent me a write up on modifying the HK baffles to make them into Glass Paks (remember the old Thrush mufflers?) It sounds like kind of a lot of work for the average rider so I'm still searching for something to bolt in.
I just ordered a set of baffles from a company called MWCC Baffle INC. (www.mwccbaffle.com) They sound almost too good to be true.... I'll let you all know on this forum what kind of result I get...
If you want a copy of the writeup Doc sent me send me a private message with your
e-mail and I'll send it... (I have no idea how to pst it here)
Cheers!! CCH

ITS RIDE'N TIME AGAIN !!!

Guys I am thinking maybe I should build a set of homemade glasspac's from my stock baffles that I have and start selling them to you guys. I could take your old baffles in trade to make a new set for the next guy. It takes me a day to make the and a lot of work BUT. What do you guys think?

I think I didn't buy open pipes to close them off. That's what I think. So there!

It is nice of you to offer.

Even if you are trying to make money off of it.

The inside is still straight thru not closed off but the fiberglass assorbs the has crack sound and give it a more mellow tone unless you get on it then it is almost as loud as before. I'll send ya the pdf when I get home to your e-mail.

Post edited by: Curt, at: 2007/03/26 16:50

My baffles don't come out. I'd have to cut off the ends of my pipes and send em to ya. Appreciate the thought though.

I too appreciate the link to mwcc and would like to hear more from Curt on his "glass packs" (I still have fond memories of the sound of my ole Thrushes).

I've been in the exhaust hunt for nearly 6 months and haven't been able to pull the trigger. I've always liked the look of the HK's over anything else, but consistently read of complaints on the noise tone and level. Anyone have Roadburners??? I hear they are the same/similar to the HK's, with some claiming better quality.

I'd love to hear more from you guys about these and other pipes and in return I promise not to write yet another "What Exhaust Should I Get" post. Some things I've read about the HK's on cruiser customizing were several complaints of chrome quality, particularly near the end of the pipe. Any comments?

Hey trex

You can go to the Cobra site and they have sound clips of some of the pipes for the Roadies they make.

Thanks for the link, to mwccbaffle.com.

Since I've been pulled over twice in less than a year with my 3" HK's, I'm looking for something to quiet them down. The last time the strainer had been installed, and the cop let me go. But he did warn me to quiet it down. I can understand his issue if I was on the throttle hard but I was in 5th going 50-55 on a 4 lane road. Heck my neighbors son has a Civic that’s louder than my bike at that speed and gearing. I'm looking to either build my own glass packs or give those mwccbaffles a shot. Let me know how they worked for you. The first ticket was right around $300 total, or half the cost of new HK's. So I need to get her quiet soon. LOL

Trexmgd: As for HK's chrome issues I've had mine almost a year and over 8000 miles I've not had a single problem with fit, finish, or chrome.

Musky: I didn't buy open pipes for that reason either, but the Cops are getting terrible out here in Coloradifornia. Saw 3 bikes pulled over at the same time this Sunday; the cop was looking up the tail pipe.

Send me your e-mail address using PM and I will e-mail you my baffles PDF file. You can decide if you want to make them or not.
