clutch noise 5 Years, 2 Months ago
Anyone ever have a chirping sound when you pull in your clutch? Tends to be louder when the engine is hot. Is this anything to be alarmed about?

Thanks,

Does it sound like it's coming from the clutch area? Rolling or sitting still?

It is definitely the clutch and it will make the sound even sitting still when you engage the clutch. I did ask one of the guys at my local dealership on the phone one day and he said basically to ignore it and just ride. I like this guy but he ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer if you know what I mean and besides I have yet to be stirred in the wrong direction when I ask you guys questions.

Guess I should have asked if it does it with the motor off. Maybe the cable needs lube or something is draging down there.

No your question was correct I guess I wasn't clear on my answer. With the engine running (mostly after it is warmed up) the chirping noise happens when I pull in the clutch lever. It only does when running. It almost sounds like an old clutch on an older vehicle with a bad throw out bearing. As long as the clutch is released and you are rolling everything is normal.

What oil are you using? Clutch hub nut loose. Warped plate. Is the clutch adjusted right? Hopefully I can keep you entertained until someone who has had this problem hops in and let's you know exactly what to do.

I am still using Yamalube from the dealer which I just changed last week with the filter. Nothing seems to be loose and I am all into entertainment. It sure beats no response. I'm sure if it is anything common someone on this site has heard of it.

You're right - on a car it would be a bad release bearing.

Beats me.

How many miles on the bike?

This reply may post twice. If so just chalk it up to my computer illiteracy. The bike has 7800 miles but I first began to notice it around 5000 miles. It doesn't seem to hurt the performance but it is about as annoying as the old "headlight rattle" especially in town between traffic lights when you just have to sit there and endure it unless you shift to neutral.

I misunderstood.

Do you get the chirping noise when ...

- as you pull the clutch in
or
- when the clutch is pulled in

Usually it's a chirp as you pull in and a squeel when it's pulled in But that would mean one of the bearings (which it can't be).

I've been in there a couple of times and I can't visualize what would cause the noise. Everything is bathed in oil - not enough oil ???

If it's chirps as you pull it in it could be a damaged pull lever shaft.

If it's still under warranty, take it in and have them look at it. If not then, you'll have to go in and spec out the components.
