Bad Dunlops??? 2 Years, 10 Months ago
I've been running ME 880s and had great luck, I get 10 to 15k out of them.... well, 3 months ago I was offered 1 helluva deal on a pair of Dunlop 404's. Long story short, 3 months later the rear is about shot with 3500 miles on it. No burnouts or radical cruisin' either... I'm to old for that. It has flat spots and the center is practicaly smooth....yes, I keep the proper pressure in them. The front is a little better, but its probably only got 40 % of the tread left. Anyone else have a problem with them??? Just wondering if I have some backup before I call Dunlop.

I replaced my new(2000 miles/rear)Dunlop 404 recently because it picked up a screw. I decided to replace it with a Metzler 880. The shop I talked to told me the Dunlop was too soft for a heavy cruiser such as the RS.

I've never ran anything but Dunlops, First the 404's and then the Cruisemax. I regularly get close to 15k from a set and like the way they handle. They also tend to be lower priced compared to some other brands. 3500 miles seems like unusual wear, was your tire aligned properly?

I don't know about the 404 but I run the dunlop 402! They are run on the harley's. I get around 10,000. Tires here in the desert don't last as long due to the excessive heat!! I ran a cheng shin tire once (I was desperate at the time) I got 2000 miles and it was bald as a babies butt!
Here is a web site talking about the Dunlop D404 tire.

Check you Dunlop 404's guys. After a closer exam at the dealer... they are cracked around the inside of the tread,.. like weather checked. Also found a few out right splits about an inch long. After 3500 miles and about 3 months. Front and back.

a question i would ask is how old those tires are for the "great price" because if they are old and dried out then thats whats gonna happen.

Old tires are bad news.

I have 7000 miles on my "08" and the rear looks to be good until 9000 or so. My front is gone but I'm going for a few more miles.
I'm hard on the front I guess.

I've got 5000 miles on my Dunlops. Rear is fine, but front is cupping, and wobbles on deceleration, and has done so for 1000 miles now. Am all ears when it comes to recommendation for another brand... have been thinking Metzlers.

FWIW, back when I was tire shopping, it came down to the Metz or Continentals. The Contis got great reviews, and from what I remember they are ALL made in Germany. I went with the Metz this time to try them and am happy with them, but may try Continental next time around.
