So it looks like some type of pump issue may be plausible.

Maybe the guys in the US need to start notifying the NHTSA http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ of problems they are having with carb overflow. This way we can see how big of a problem this really is. It would be one way to get Yamaha to stand up and take notice as the NHTSA probably has a low tolerance to gas spewing on a hot engine.

It seems to be a bigger issue that the 'occasional' report that I've seen before. Whatever it is due to, it needs to be resolved before not only someones bike goes up in flames (see previous post) but some guy goes up in flames.

Musky do you want to put a post on Forum?

Funny.... My dealer said hot engine, no big deal, as long as there isn't an open flame!

Most dealers will tell you anything to avoid dealing with the problem.

Technically he's correct, without an ignition source it's no problem.

Exhaust leak. Spark off a bad wire. It is a big deal even if it only catches fire once. My 2 cents anywho.

Morning folks

Want to keep the ball rolling on Doc's idea. Had 3 people so far do it on the RSR site. Even if you haven't had the issue you can still file a complaint with the NHTSA because of a concern for your safety. You need to be in the U.S. to do this. If there is a similar site in other countries please post the link so others can file.

Thanks

OK, it's been better than 2 months, have done some good riding, all types, and it's yet to puke like before. So at this point I would have to say it was the pump(of course this post could put the hex on it ).

Hope you found your fix. Mine did it the first day I brought it home. The dealer went through the carb and lowered the float by 2mm. I also had them add a fuel line to the bottom of the bike to prevent it from getting on the hot engine in the event that it should occur again. So far, so good. No problems since they made the adjustment.
