Hey Carl,
When I took my mile high ride in NC, this past week, I heard the same noise you're talking about too...
But, when I got my ear under the bike, it sounds more like it's coming from around the spot where the pipes fit together (at the mufflers...)
I also thought that I could smell hot rubber...
I gotta say that is does sound like something is perculating down there...
But, nothing blew up or failed miserably, so I didn't give it much thought after that...
I'm not to sure that you really get oil to "boil"... per se... It would have to be REALLY hot... and by then, I wouldn't be too inclined to strike any matches...
