Buddy I think your going to get some response on this one, when mine was done they didn't torq down my rear cylinder and blow the head gasket there response ways that I didn't bring it back in for the 500 mile check and trust me they didn't say anything about that when I picked her up...........Good luck but you do have to have it done

Sigman, Ultrastar is correct, you are going to get an earfull. Seems that many yamadealers are not what they should be. Your only defense is to research the dealers in your area, and be sure to ask as many questions as possible. Remember, there are no dumb questions when you are talking about your star.

I have two dealers (Garden City, KS and Stillwater, OK) that have both done work on my bike, and I have had no complaints at all. not everyone is that lucky. I think if you post your general area, other riders will give their experiences with dealers in that area. It doesn't do much good to get info on dealers 1000 miles away.

Good Luck, and I'm sure after the recalls are done you will have a solid ride.

Yeah , where are you. Certainly one or more of us can tell you a dealer to go to.......or at least the ones to avoid in your area. BB

If you're wanting to do any internal performance upgrades (high compression pistons, cams, ported intake, etc), now's the time to get it done while they're doing the recall. They have to totally tear the engine down, so installing the new parts won't cost you anything extra in labor.

The previous owner had mine done a couple of years ago. I called Yamaha with the VIN to verify it had really been done. They told me yes, and it was a very reputable dealer that did it, from what others have told me. (Yamaha of Rancho Cucamonga, Ca.) It runs better than awesome and zero leaks!

I had the recall work done on my 01 last winter, with 48,000 trouble free miles on her. I had a couple of upgrades done and some rubber parts replace and she is good as new. And, YES, I did worry the whole time that they were gonna F it up. But that didnt happen. I got lucky and got an experienced mechanic that had already done a number of the recalls already. I hope yours turns out well.

Mine went pretty smoothly, but I dropped it off last fall and told them they had all winter... Of course they were finishing it up in April when I wanted to pick it up. My '99 only had11K miles or so when I took it in but they reccomended a new intake because the old one was dry rotted, and I had Patrick Racing HC pistons, and the newer oil pump gear put in on reassembly. I ended up with something under a $500 bill when it was all said and done all for the eaxtra parts, plus they knocked off the winter storage charge I intended to pay.

I haven't had any problems in the first 2000 miles since the job, once it was jetted correctly. Along with the pistons I had them install a Speedstar BAK, and Rev Master. It did some serious popping when I got it back so I removed the AIS, and installed new pipes before taking it back to get the jetting dialed in. My only complaint is that I don't think the tech jetted it at all when he was done like we had agreed. Otherwise, I'm very happy.

It's not too late ! Call keith at Obermeyer Yamaha and tell him what's up. He has two guys in the shop that have been to the Yamaha school and completely diassembled Liner and roady engines and reassembled. They are a "Yamaha Pro Shop".
Hope this helps
