Welcome to the Clinic Mike

Nope. It's not just an issue with the newer bikes. And you dealer is right. This shouldn't be happening. Your bike is still under warranty so don't let them blow you off. There doesn't seem to be a carved in stone answer on what causes it but if we keep hammering away maybe something will come up. The issue right now seems to be that more than one thing might cause it.

Got another reply that sorta answers the question but not really. He had the problem and went pumpless but he also went to a 42 carb. No more problems but who knows if it was the pump or the 42.

MIKEY T, keep me informed on the carb replacement. As I've written, my pump was changed a week ago. I'm surprised they went the carb route. A carb is something that can be broken down and examined for faults.
The new pump IS working different. Not as many "clicks" when the key is turned on, the bike seems more responsive. We'll see.

When I did have the pump, mine would click 4-5 times when the key was turned on and then stop. For short stops (gas) the pump would not click.

Something to consider .... I went from the stock pump to a Puralator Pump and regulator. That pump was always on when the bike was powered. I also never had a problem. This would lead me to believe it's a stock pump rather than a carb problem.

Again, 1 person is a small sample and thus may not mean anything.

With the original pump, first key turn of the day would be 10-15 clicks of the pump. I always wait till this ended to start the bike. After stopping maybe 5-7 depending on how long I stopped. This has definitly been cut down. Hopefully a very good sign.
