Ultimate Seat needed 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Hey guys (and gals),

Been a while since I posted on here, bike has been running great and up to 92,000 km. HOwever, my wife is also starting to ride along as passenger and the stock pilion seat is killing her behind. I sure don't want that damaged! LOL!!

I am considering the Ultimate Seat after looking at Corbin and Mustang. It seems to have the widest passenger seat, and the overall rider seat also looks great. Any one have compared and care to share? Also, if you have or know someone who has an Ultimate Seat (2 or 3 piece), for sale...let me know please.

Thanks

Pete

My honey said it's better than the stock seat, but she said it's not that much better. We've been on a couple of longer rides and she's OK when we get home. She does miss the strap from the stock seat thou.

How often will she be riding with you? Maybe just get a gel pad? Big Butts It covers the seat and makes it real wide (don't know how wide she needs ) but it's something to look at.

I've only used the stocker and the Ultimate, no other brand to compare with. My wife loves the seat.

Pete - searching on here exhaustively before finally settling on Ultimates (and I'm glad I did), it seems to me that there's several passengers who like the Mustang better for the wider pillion, but many that liked the Ultimate as well. I'll add that I tried a Pro-pad first, and I wish I would have used the $$ towards getting an Ultimate sooner instead.

BTW - where did your driver's backrest come from...my passenger misses the OEM strap too, and I have an idea...

DARN - are you thinking what I'm thinking?

It's crossed my mind! I've been thinking of pulling the strap off the stocker and putting it on the ultimate, or were you just thinking of a MOD??

The wife and I love the Ultimate seat. Very comfy on the long rides. We have the 4 piece. Well worth the money for us!

Alright, I realize you're mainly asking about the passenger pillion, but I gotta say my piece about the Ultimate Seats as a whole setup...

I tried the stock Silverado seat with a Firehouse Customs backrest bracket. The seat was too flat so that the combo didn't work all that great. I had a brief run with a Corbin stilleto seat but it pushed me to far forward and for me sat at an odd angle. Plus it was more for looks than long-distance riding. I gave in and ordered a Mustang vintage with backrest - it was too hard and 'bucketed', and it leaned me back at a weird angle such that without the backrest it was very UNcomfortable to sit in the way it was designed to sit in.

I was seriously disappointed at the lack of comfort I was experiencing and about ready to give up and start looking for another bike, honestly. I figured I had to try the Ultimate even though I wasn't wild about the price. I can't give them enough praise. I can use the seat without a backrest; yet with my highway pegs, I can scoot into the seat and lean into the backrest for long periods of time and be very comfortable (A couple side notes - 1) I ride with the backrest about 99% of the time. 2) I thought I'd want to remove the b.r. when it got hot out due to sweat factor, but that hasn't been the case with the Ultimate). The passenger seat works well too and I think at 14" wide is actually wider than the Mustang. I haven't had any complaints from my passenger.

I've also found that the Ultimate puts me in the most similar (almost identical, although I don't know how they do it) position to stock seat as far as distance from handlebars and foot controls, and height-wise in relation to my windshield.

Another thing to consider - the large Ultimate passenger backrest provides good support and the mounting holes sit lower than on other backrests. This allows the Ultimate to sit higher on the sissy bar and provide more support than others of the same size.

Good luck!
