To my fellow riders....just to clarify, is the Dyna 3000 an accessory to get around that annoying ( unsafe) rev limiter that scares the shorts off of me every time it kicks in? Is this the only option to fixing the rev limiter problem? Is this an easy installation that can be tackled by reading the instructions?
Rosco
If you get scared when you hit the limiter this won't help. You just hit the limiter at a higher RPM. Besides the Dyna or other after market boxes you can get an ign box from a 1700. That will bump your limit from 4250 to 4750.

Just installed my Dyna 3000. Set it @ 5000 rpm and 34A. Went for a ride. Not to noticeable difference except that I didn't hit the rev limit. Came home and set it to 36A. Went out for another (shorter) ride. Felt more power at the throttle. (I did cut the battery box hole for ease of changes.)
My question is, what is the major difference between the 2 settings (I run an '01 1602cc w/Hypercharger and Samson Big Gun Slashers)? I read where Curt said 34A is better for 2-3k rpm and 36A is better at higher.

That's correct .... if you live in the upper rpms then you'll find 36A more to your liking.
Most folks like 34A but one needs to try 36A to see if it suits their riding style.
I believe the Dyna is overhype .... if you're expecting a big change then you'll be disappointed .... it's part of may subtle and sometimes expensive changes that overall make the bike run better.

Does that mean:
Guys who ride 40mph in 3rd gear would like 36A
Guys who ride 40mph in 4th gear would like 34A

Mr.C,
That may be exactly a way of looking at it. I prefer higher gears and lower revs, to higher revs in lower gears.
I use 34A, and find it much to my liking... but mostly because I never hit the rev limiter anymore, since I set it for 5,000 rpms.
Now that I have a 31 tooth front sprocket... I'm in 4th gear while I do my usual cruising at between 35 and 45 mph.
Time now to install my SpeedoHealer!

Got the SpeedoHealer installed... used their on-line calculator and dialed it back 11%. So far, it sounds and feels right. Now to compare with a GPS reading for finer calibration... but not today!
