Re:HK's are on! 5 Years, 2 Months ago
I've got the HK 3" on mine as well, and a big ditto on the sound - would love to mellow them out a little. One thing that's a little tough is trying to determine what these alternatives sound like. I'm real curious on Curt's glasspac mod and MWCC. I also notice that Hard-Krome has had a message on their website for the past 6 months about the harshness of their pipes, and that they're working on an alternative baffle solution as well (http://www.hardkrome.com/Metric/MetricFaq.asp - check the 3rd FAQ).

So, anybody have an idea of how we can actually hear Curt's or MWCC's solution.

Btw Curt, if it were a good solution - I'd pay for it!

Post edited by: galban, at: 2007/03/28 08:26

Doc has the PDF file I think at some point he may post it on the site. Meanwhile anyone that wants it they can e-mail me and I will send it to them. I even thought of sending it to HK and telling them they should start building them. CCH if you could I would love to see a picture of those that you bought before you stick them in. Also would like to know a little more about them, how they are made ect and if they have fiberglass in them.

I sent the file on to our site administrator, Gram. He's quite busy and has not been able to post it.

Hey Boarders,

I also purchased the baffles from mwcc. I should get them on Saturday, and they say it only takes twenty minutes to install. I will post about them as soon as I can.

Thanks,

pman

CCH and Pman,

I am extrememly interested in how those baffles work out for you guys. I've looked at their site, but just don't know if I wanna try them.
So, when you get them and install them, please please please please please let us know how well they work at toning things down. I got the PDF from Curt (thanks again Curt) but don't have access to the equipment to be able to do the mod.

I'm pulling my HKs off very soon, because the chrome on the flanges has given way to many rust spots. Talked to HK, they only guarentee their pipes against bluing, and since the pipes were fine when I installed them, I'm SOL. Gonna grind the flanges down to bare metal and hit them with some high heat paint and see how they look.

Anyhow, I'm waiting (im)patiently to hear how the new baffles work out!

Good luck guys!

Hey thanks Doc - I appreciate the compliment!

I was looking around some more about the HKs and baffles and found the following post. If you're interested in toning down your HKs, this is a VERY interesting read. This link drops you into the middle of the thread, but into the meat of the baffle that "UncleHerm" came up with. About halfway down this page are the directions on how to make the baffle:

I've had my HK's on for about a year now and have tried several methods to take that sharp bark out... The crumb cups and my own version (drilled plates at the outlet side of the baffles) It helps but it still sounds harsh at low speeds.
Doc sent me a write up on modifying the HK baffles to make them into Glass Paks (remember the old Thrush mufflers?) It sounds like kind of a lot of work for the average rider so I'm still searching for something to bolt in.
I just ordered a set of baffles from a company called MWCC Baffle INC. (www.mwccbaffle.com) They sound almost too good to be true.... I'll let you all know on this forum what kind of result I get...

Hey CCH, did you get the MWCC baffles installed this weekend?

Curt,

Thanks for the PDF on your baffles. You should consider producing those to sell to those of us (me) that don't have the tools and or skills to make them.
