Bogging down-HELP 2 Years, 5 Months ago

Evvery now and again when I first star up my bike it runs good,I live 1/2 mile from interstate,runs good for the first 2 miles then it starts spitting,sputtering,popping and backfiring to the point where I have to down shift to 4th to maintain a safe speed all the while it is bogged down and backfiring.After about 2 or 3 miles it comes out of it and runs good the rest of the time.The bike is an 07 and all stock except for V&H longshots.The funny thing is I mentioned this to a friend of mine who has an 06 and he was having the same problem.We do not fill up at the same gas station if that would matter.I run 87 octane.
