Local Service Recommendations 3 Months ago
Okay, I've finally given up!

Took my bike to my local dealership (Matthews Fun Machines - MFM). I'd bought a set of tires from Southwest here on the Clinic and wanted to get them mounted. Rode out and met my girlfriend but MFM won;t install them because they're afraid of a lawsuit. Don't understand how you can successfully sue them as long the installation was done properly, but, oh well. After my last experience with them, I've finally decided I've had enough.

So, anyone in the Queen City area know of a good alternative? I know I could try one of the other three dealers, but, wondered if any locals had some experience with them and could point me in one direction or the other.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe find an independant wrench around your area to do them, probably be cheaper too. Dealers use the liability excuse since they're not getting a cut of the profit on the tire sale.

I and several of my friends have had good dealings with Iron Horse Motorcycles:

Heff has been in business for a really long time. I bought a used Sportster from him back in like 85 and he was very long in the tooth then.

As for a Genuine Yamaha Authorised Dealership ... I am close to Ridenow Motorsports Concord/Kanapolis and I am going to give them a try when I have my Yamawarranty work done:

E-mail if you want and we can maybe meet over luch or something and talk Stars and ride.
I still need a couple weeks to finish rebuilding 100%, ie.. I just noticed the riser bushings seem weird somehow, so I have a set ordered.

You guys must live pretty close to me in the University area of Charlotte. I bought my '08 from Al Lanes Yamaha but it is all the way over in Lincolnton. I haven't had a local shop work on mine but would be glad to know of a good shop in the area. I've been up to RideNow in Concord but there 'don't give a damn/ don't know much' attitude in the sales department turned me off to them. Might have a good service department though, I don't know. I've heard some good stuff about that dealership near the Interstate in Huntersville but haven't checked it out. Would appreciate any info you come up with.

You talking about this place?

I got a bit turned off by Ridenow's service manager trying to push me to set up an appointment date and order parts, so I am still open to suggestions for the Yamawarranty work. I have a Star riding friend in Troutman I'll ask too.

I guess I'll give Interstate a try. The problem I've had is finding an independent around here that will work on anything but Harleys. If I could find someone and he was competent, he'd get all of my bsiness and a helluva lot of referrals.

BTW - Off Independence, behind City Chevrolet.

Would love to get together sometime. As soon as I get the new tires put on!!

Iron Horse of Monroe is independent at heart, they sell some brands new (I think Honda), but a motorcycle is a motorcycle to them.
They do cater to both kinds of motorcyclists, riders and owners. Once you talk to a couple of the guys in sales, parts or service and they figure out your a rider looking for reasonable maintenance instead of an owner wanting impresive doo-dads installed, the tone of conversation changes and you meet the people beyond the showroom.

I was told the same thing here in Wa.
I had to buy the tires from them or they wouldn't mount them. After much deliberation they sold me the tires for $20 less than I was going to get them on line.

Hey Big Dawg
Sorry that your having problems getting the tires mounted....Call Interstate cycles here in Cornelius...they actually removed the set you have and installed my first set of whitewalls that I had brought to them. Decent service department at Interstate Cycles.

As far as AL Laynes Kawasaki in Lincolnton...[b]STAY AWay[/b I had a major costly service problem 5 years ago with them. I am getting angry thinking about it.
them and I have found many more people have had the same experience
Call me if Cornelius cant help
Take care

If you don't mind going south on I-77 a few miles, try Alpha Motorsports in Rock Hill SC. Alpha is a Yamaha dealer and I've had good luck with them. They have mounted several tires for me that I did not buy from them.
