I'm with SobaCracker, It has added about 1/2 gallon to my capacity. That is punching holes in the filler neck.

Kind of odd but fills a dual purpose, at least for me. I strap a plastic 1 gallon gas can on the rack. Extra gas and no cager comes withing 100' behind me.

BTW, while I don't have a death wish, an empty can will be just as effective at keeping the tailgater's at bay. Plus you have something to carry the gas back to the bike with.

Re:Bigger Gas Tank??? 2 Years, 9 Months ago
I posted about this previously and have done something about my concern that the Roadie tank is too big. For one of my winter projects I have bought a 3.3 gallon tank and will get it installed over the winter. Putting gauge/gauges up on handlebars where you can actually see the damn things. I get about 45 MPG so 3 gallons will get me 135 miles which is plenty for me at one shot. Hard to find one that will fit our backbone and god help us you should see the actual size of the wiring harness running under there! Since I am doing the tank I might as well bob the fender and change the sissy bar and then paint it eh?

I've been looking at those tour tanks for a while now - just bought a Corbin DT Saddle, so when I get money again I'm getting 2 small ones, maybe 2.5's.

My Idea for mounting is 2 silver fuel pods mounted on the rear fender bolts. I have this thing for symmetry, so it has to be equal. Should look like the fuel pods that jets carry.

Actually it's that or I'm making false bottoms for my beetle bags that I plan to buy. Take a little storage away, but what use is storage if I get smashed to pieces by stupid cars in a rest station. I swear they get off the highway at 80 mph, and they drop like 20 mph cruising into the gas station.

Question, with the carb I can just pipe a couple t's into my fuel line right? I was thinking maybe put a central filler at a higher elevation than the other tanks and just use it? Would I have to vent my gas cap for that? I think I would...

Since the summer started in June I've kept a record of gas in, miles ridden and MPG. I'm getting an average of 39.8 MPG with my setup. That's over 200 miles on a tank. I'm with a few others on here. I need to drain one tank and fill the other about that often, so nothing bigger for me, thanks!

If you are going to do it, this is how I would do it. Have a small fuel pump located at each aux tank. Run your stock tank til the "low gas" light comes on (on mine that means I've used 4 gal). Then hit a switch and pump the aux tanks into your main tank. You will have to vent them also, somewhere. I did something like this years ago on my truck, but I was pumping 5 gal aux tank into a 10 gal main tank. What you want to do is not going to be a quick mod and you had better think about how to do it carefully, if you want to be safe. Can you imagine having a gallon of gas spilled on your private parts or getting to your destination and pulling gas soaked gear out of those awesome Beetle Bags?

Do you really want to go 400 miles between stops? You are a better man than I.....
