What is a fair price to pay??? 5 Years, 1 Month ago
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to buy my first Road Star. I have my eyes on a 1999 Road Star Silverado in very nice condition. It is all stock but for some Bub pipes and passing lamps. The color is the green and silver. It has 5,000 miles on it. Overall, the bike is very original looking with no leaks, etc...

They are asking $6,950 for it, which I think is a little high. It's been for sale on their showroom floor for a couple of months now. I thought $5,500 to $6,000 is more fair, but what does everyone else think?

Thanks!

NADA lists average retail at $6012 w/high performance exhaust option. A lot of the value depends on which part of the country you are in, and of course supply and demand. I am sure the seller left himself a little room for negotiation.
I live in Texas and just recently picked up a 2001 Silverado with 2600 miles on it in like new condition for $5500 after a bit of haggling.

Sounds a bit high but depends where you are.

You can get an approximate idea by checking Autotrader.com for your area.

Also check the R* Riders Forum (link on the Clinic home page) as there's usually a R* for sale there.

... "no leaks"

Actually, I live in the Chicago, IL area. I found this bike at a place called WOW Motorcycles in Georgia. Based on the photos and the conversations I have had, I'm confortable with buying it sight unseen and having it shipped here.

I like the 1999 green/silver and the 2000 black/silver, but they take some searching to find. I just think that $6,960 for a bike in Georgia sounds a little high. Has anyone ever heard of this outfit (WOW Motorcycles)? Here is the link to the bike I am looking at... http://www.wowmotorcycles.com/ Click on the "motorcycles" link on the left, then click on the "Yamaha" button on the top and scroll down to the 1999 Green/Silver Road star.

Let me know what you think.

Let me know what you think.

LOOKS realy nice. I don't know on the used ones though, price wise.

Before I bought my '07 in January, I was looking at a red '04 Silverado with about the same miles, stock exhaust though for $5500. That was January though..

You just have to decide what it is worth to YOU.

Good luck on negotiations. You won't regret any good (ALL) RoadStar.

It also has highway lights and winshield pouch, worth 2-3 hundred. However that does seem high. Check ebay. Great place to see what people are paying for them.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm going to make an offer later this week. If I get my price I'll post pics when it comes. If I can't settle on price, I'll just keep looking.

I have to admit, I've had more fun than I can describe looking for this bike. I love these Road Stars!

I'll post from time to time until I finally have one and can officially be a part of this board...not just lurking.

Thanks all.

I have been dropping by WOW for years, as it is only about 30 miles from the house here. Infact, bought my wifes 96 Magna there, and couldn't be happier. Yes, they have some "junk" (mostly ragged out Zip and Splats) but for the most part, their inventory is later model clean rides.BB

Thanks for the input Big Bear. "Ragged out Zip and Splats"...that's funny! Took me a second to figure that one out

Hey, if you get serious with them, let me know. I'll try to ride over there and eyeball it for you.

I'm a southern boy, but my wife spent many years in IL. and infact her old man still live in Evanston, just north of the city. I love Chicago.BB
