Looking at adding an ultr classic to my rides 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Good moring all. I know some of you own or have own a Harley ultra classic and I have some questions. Year I am looking at is an 05 with 25,000 miles on it. Has all the goodies and is a one owner. I was paticularly impressed with the condition of paint and the stock lowers. One thing that concerns me is at 63.5 inches in wheel a little tight maybe since we have 66.5 or there about and really enjoy the roadie ride and handleing. Please tell me why I would not want to by this bike. Thanks

How do you feel riding it? I have a friend with an Ultra, and he loves it! You look to be a tall man, my friend is maybe 5'7". I like my Roadie, but I still drool over his Ultra.

It's a nice ride, makes it a tough choice. If you can afford it and you have room, why not? You will be keeping the Roadie, right?

Ride it for a day, and see how it feels would be my sugestion. If he won't let you ride it for a day, then he really doesn't want to sell it to you.

Re:Looking at adding an ultr classic to my rides 2 Years, 9 Months ago
After I bought the Roadie, 'we' decided we needed something made to tour more comfortably when we rode together. (I wanted the Roadie as a solo anyway ) I ended up going with an '07 Royal Star Venture. NEVER been more comfortable on a bike, among all of it's other attributes.

Your question about the Ultra was "why I would not want to buy this bike?"
Because you could have a Venture! (For half the $$$ if you look hard)

Anyway, that was the right choice for me. The Ultra may be right for you! Good luck whatever you do!

I have an 05 electra glide standard. Not much difference other then I don't have the tour pak. You will find that the Harley will make you seem like your riding a smaller bike when you first get on it. A lot depends on the seat. If it has the tour seat with comfort stitch they are more padded and tends to move you more forward. You will find that the Ultra floor boards sit back a little more then the R*. Harley made the bike so that your feet sit flat and then your legs go straight up!Your sitting with your body at horizontal & perpendicular positions. Were as the R* your feet are more forward. After riding my R* for over 60,000 miles and then getting on the harley it felt a little weird and I'm only 5'7" but then after riding for awhile it became very comfortable. I have also changed up my seat which allows me to sit back a little more and that made a big difference. So in the end I think you would be happy with the bike but it will take some getting used to. You will find the harley maneuvers better and is much smoothier when running on the road. Yes it will vibrate at idle but come up off idle and she smoothes right out. Each bike has it's good points and I like both my 2 roadstars & my harley. If your getting the bike for a great deal I would jump on it. IMHO!

I can not give you a negative. I am 6-0 230 and just rode 2 up for 2200 miles in 5 days. enjoyed every minute of it. Good luck with your choice.

Take it for a good long test ride and see what you think. See if they have the service records for the bike to make sure all services were performed. Each make & model has its "good and bad". I can't offer much for the 05 but I have a 09 Ultra and enjoy it. For the long hauls its a sweet ride. Around town its not bad either.

Re:Looking at adding an ultr classic to my rides 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Just offering my unsolicited opinion on the Ultra!
I also am aware that my views may differ from most because I'm gravitationally challanged, (OK I'm fat) LOL

I'm 6'4" and 385 lbs. Basically like 2 up ridin all by myself!!
When I add a passanger, unless I find one 35 or 40 lbs, I'm runnin pretty overweight on ANY bike!!

I've found for both my height and weight that the Roadie is more comforatable then anything else I've tried.

I've rented Ultra classics, Screamin Eagle Ultra classics, Screamin Eagle Fatboy, and rode a 2006 Victory TC last summer that an ex bought

The only bike I've been consistently comfortable on is the Roadie!! I've also discovered the value of torque vs hp. Even the screamin eagle HD's were not that great for torque output and at least seat of the pants wise the only bike I've ridden that has not flattened out on me is the Roadie!!

I found all the Ultra's I tried with the slightest of inclines flattened right out on acceleration.

All kidding aside, even if I lost 100 pounds, size wise the HD's all felt cramped to me

OK I'm gonna shuddup now as I'm ranting, at the end of the day ,like one of the guys suggested, if you can roadtest it for a day, do it!! If YOU are comfortable on it and on how it performs and what it will cost you, BUY IT!! If not don't

Like I said juz my opinion!!

You may now return your stewardess to her original upright position

Peace

I have a 2009 Ultra Classic in addition to my Road Star. The Ultra Classic is much smoother once you get above idle and feels more nimble than the Road Star when going through curves. I'm just over 6' and 220 lbs and felt a little cramped with my feet when I first got the Ultra so I added some highway pegs several inches higher than my floorboards so that I can stretch out with my heels on the floorboards and feet resting against the pegs.

If you are looking for a touring style bike you won't be dissappointed.
