I had the same problem, hours of messing with different settings and my only outcome was the ability to remove the saddle bags and brackets faster than a NASCAR pit crew. I finally gave up and took them off. I thought about taking the upper chrome belt guard off but then I questioned the wisdom in that. What would keep the saddle bag bracket from hitting the belt then? I couldn't imagine that would be good for the life of the belt. Some guys have great luck with the lowering brackets but I've read of many that never get it to stop hitting.

I have the brackets sitting on my work bench if anyone is interested in purchasing them.
