Hand signals 2 Years, 5 Months ago
OK, not the single finger wave, but what about the rest? I've read a couple of times about someone "Signaled them".
The two fingers pointing down - "Keep the rubber on the road"
Head nod - "Hands are too busy to wave"
Tapping hand on head or helmet - "LEO ahead with radar"

I know that there are several "Actual" signals, so who knows them all and what are they? I don't always know how to signal someone that his turn signal is still on, or his rider fell off, or he is dragging a large plastic bag from his fender. So what are some signals (REAL ONES)

I like the last one! Sort of obvious

What about the ones that WE all use?

Your signal is on, or someone flashing their brights at you, those sort of signals??

Do you give 3 fingers down for a trike?

What if the rider flashes you? Is that a signal?

Actually, there are even more intricacies that some use. The V salute ("peace sign" is actually for V-Twin riders (e.g., Harley Touring) vs. closed 2 fingers for Boxer engines (e.g., BMW RT types.)Four closed fingers are used for the in-line 4-cylinder sport bikes (e.g., Honda CBR100RR) and - if you're up to it - you can do a V-4 salute4 too!

I shouldn't reveal this to the world yet, but there is a "new wave" so to speak. It is performed with the (helmeted) rider's left hand lifted from the grip, moved outward to the end of said grip and tightly balled into a (gloved) fist. This is the "hammer". It is reserved for sport riders and acknowledges their common addiction to high horsepower. Apparently this started on the canyon road around Tortilla Flat, Arizona and spread west...

Well, if they are dragging a plastic bag by the pipes......
you get their attention.
Make an "O" with one hand...........
Then lift yourself up and hold same hand under butt.

Here's one guess,
Get the attention of fellow rider.
Point to your eye, your Knee, then your tank.
(I Kneed Gas)
(If you point to mouth last = I kneed food)

get attention fellow rider,
Point to him then yourself, then knee, show peace sign, then point one finger up and do a circle.
(We kneed 2 turn around.)

Another .
Get attention,
Then hold hand in a fist then show 5 finger spread, do it over and over.
(Your blinker is still on.)

Tapping your helmet for LEO? I'd think you were adjusting something.
I put my hand out flat by my knee and wave it downward, Like slow down slow down slow down.

When leading,
Put hand on top of helmet and hold it there a few seconds and flash brake light several times.
Like (Oh crap something is going on here! And point to it, road hazard, traffic Jam, so on.)

On Super slab,
Turn on signal and leave it on although no lane change is going on. And flashing brakes.
(Deer or some jerk about ready to pull out in front of us so watch em. Left signal from the left right signal from the right. or quick left right left right means both sides)

I have all kinds, but no one else seems to know what I am talking about. So that's normal!

These are the hand signals we use in our Star Touring and Riding Chapter. At least the published ones

Hand Signals

Each rider and passenger should duplicate all hand signals given by the rider in front of them, so that the signals get passed all the way to the back of the formation. The following signals are used in addition to the standard (right, left turn, slow/stop) hand signals

Block Lane Change
The Road Captain (after having the Tail Gunner secure the lane) Raises his left arm straight up. Each rider repeats this signal. Then as the Road Captain lowers his arm to point to the lane into which he's moving, he actually initiates the change. All other riders lower their arms at the same time and change lanes too.

Fill In From Rear
After having the Tail Gunner secure the lane and putting on his directional signal (which is repeated by each rider), the Road Captain raises his left hand to his shoulder and "pushes" his open hand toward the lane into which he wants to move. This signal is repeated by all riders, and each rider in turn, rearmost first, moves into the space ahead of the riders behind them.

Single Up
When conditions warrant single file (narrow road, anticipated wind blast from trucks, obstructions, pedestrians, ect..) the Road Captain will raise his left hand straight up, holding up just his index finger. All other riders will repeat this, and the two columns will merge into one.

Staggered Formation
After Singling Up, when single file is no longer necessary, the Road Captain will raise his left hand with the thumb and pinky out, other fingers closed, rotating his wrist back and forth (indicating left, right, left, right). All other riders will repeat this and resume staggered formation.

Tighten Formation
When the Road Captain feels that the formation should be tighter (bikes closer together) (Usually after being informed by the Tail Gunner), he raises his left hand with fingers spread wide and repeatedly closes them into a fist. All other riders repeat this and close up all unnecessary space in the formation.

Road Hazard
This is one signal that can be initiated by ANYONE. Anyone seeing a hazardous condition on the road surface (road kill, oil, gravel, significant pot hole, ect..) will point at it. All following riders will repeat this, and all riders will avoid the hazard

A great signal to cager's is to put your thumb on the tips of your middle and ring fingers, angle your wrist down and slowly tap your chest. It means "your a freaking retard and shouldn't be driving".
