Windsheilds 2 Months ago

Wanted to ask a question on what is the proper way to set up your windshield. My bike (2008 r*) has 2 adjustment points up and down and a little bit forward and back. I have moved it to the top positon so now I look through the windshield. ??Is this right?? I know the shield is to block off most wind, but how do you know which is right? Is this personal preference, some of the bikes I see have real small windshields and I cant help but think that does nothing for you. Let me know what you think, Thanks David

I ride without a windshield but I have the small switchblade deflector that I use when it's cold.
It does not keep the wind out of your face but it does deflect it away from your body extending the cold weather riding time.

I think more personal preference than anything but if you set it to high or you are short like I am and you are looking through the windshield on a clear day it doesnt seem like a real big deal, but hit some rain and it really s&*(s. I have mine set so I look over it and it blocks a considerable amount of wind to be comfortable while not having to worry bout hitting a rain storm, rain on my glasses is bad enough. Hope this helps.

If you set the windshield so that the top is in front of the point or bridge of your nose, then bugs will hit at and above the middle of your forehead, and you won't be looking through it if it rains. If the shield is too high there won't be any problem with bugs, but you can't seee if it rains. If it is too low (in front of your chin) then the bugs will be deflected right into your face.

I have had the small sport shields and taller both. I am surprised at how much the little sport shields actually do. currently in normal riding position I look through the shield, but if I sit up straight I can look over the top if I have too. Thats my personal choice. On some of the Goldwings I have been able to ride this summer you sit well below the shield, at least on the ones i rode. So I think it is what ever you are comfortable with.

I'm 6'2" & I tried the Silverado windshield on it's highest setting & didn't like it. I had to strain to look over it. "CPORetired" is right, you don't want to be looking through your windshield when it's raining (that's why cars have to have windshield wipers!). At the Silverado's lowest setting (I have the medium sized one, BTW), the airflow is just right. Air hits my helment's vents to keep me cool, but doesn't make my head wobble (Buck's Lowers help alot as well!). However, "javawave" is correct, even a small sport shield helps tremendously. I had a Slipstreamer Spitfire on my Shadow 750 & didn't think it made much of a difference. I took it off to go to bike night once, & it wore my arms out trying to keep my torso upright against the wind rush @ 80 M.P.H. From then on out, I rode with a windshield on every bike I've had (except my cafe racer, 'cause that's not cool!)

Like CPO & Java said it's a personal thing. I look through it.
For those of you who look through the windshield and are worried about rain, take along some rain-x. Works great and keeps the windshield clear during a rain storm, no wipers needed!
