If you have the california model it's different. It covers that in the tech tips too.

Once again, thank you Musky......

Oh, I forgot to mention that I have a K&N air setup with Vance & Hines longshots with no baffles.

The set up isn't important. If nothing else you get rid of that big chunk of ugly hanging off the front of your bike. A lot of people with the 1600's use spent 45 ACP cases as plugs. I think 45 colt cases cut down would look better with the bigger rim.

I just finished reading the article and it seems like a rather simple task. The only question I have about it, is it says to put the plugs in the freezer overnight to make for easier installation. What plugs are those? And where do I get them? Thanks again in advance for the great help I know I am about to get

This is the kit you would buy.

http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/316/index.html

You might be able to get the kit cheaper somewhere else but that's the one you need.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/04/08 09:37

I know I ask alot of questions, but, I like what you mentioned about .45 colt casings. If I get a couple of them what length should I cut them down to? Should I just make the length comparable to the length of the elbows I will be pulling out? Thanks again

People use 45 ACP without cutting them down so I would guess .893 would work. I don't know how long the elbows are as the 1700's use a different set up.

Are you talking about the 45 ACP or the 45 Colt Doc? The ACP is 893, the Colt is 1.275.

Well in that case, you would know better than I which 45 to use. I've fired various rifles and machine guns but never a 45 calibre.

Try a search on the RSR Forum. Some of the older posts (ala 2002) discuss the various 45 casings. I don't remember anyone doing anything 'special' to them but they do need to be spent casings.

Hey Doc

I don't know how thick the walls of the jugs are so I was just wondering if they were deep enough so you wouldn't have to trim the longer case down.

Anybody out there want to tear into their motor and measure how thick the walls are. I would do it but there might be minute differences between the 1600 and 1700. We want to be accurate.
