Cause for Concern 2 Years, 8 Months ago
I got tired of paying the extreme high price for Amsoil so I switched to Mobil 15w50 on this change. I rode the bike for a day or so and then a week ago last Thursday I got caught in a huge rain storm. It was so bad the water was up to the floor boards and I couldn’t see 100 yards. I was in the boon docks on my way home and there was no place to pull over and I couldn’t get out of the rain. I guess I rode 5 miles or more in the down pour and the bike ran rough but OK at may25 mph. It has rained every day since then and today was the first day I got to ride to work again. It ran good on the way to work and it rain twice and I had to put it in the warehouse. It cleared up and I rode home and when I got home I notice that it sounded different and it seemed like the front valves were making more noise, I also notice that the front pipe seemed louder than before. Used to the rear pipe was the loud one. I know it had to have ingested a lot of water in the rain storm but it did seem to run OK this morning. It didn’t idle worth a hoot when I got home that day it rain but I expected that sure the BAK was soaked. Any ideas on this? Did it do any damage or maybe it carbon up the front valves? It has run great for many many miles until now.

Doubt it's the oil Curt , I've put many thousand of miles on that same brand/weight of oil. Have you drained the bowl looking for any water? When I had the BAK , caught a toad killer in Amarillo that really made my Roadie run like crap till I got all the H2O out of her. 2 cents. BB

Don't get me wrong it still runs great but it just sounds different and the front valves seem to make a lot more noise now. She still runs like a bat out of hell.

Well Curt, you know I am an Amsoil dealer, I had to put in new oil while on my trip and according to the independent lab analysis, Mobile One V Twin can in so close behind Amsoil, It can't be the oil. And I have run Mobile one for 6K with a M1 101 filter no problems. It didn't last as long as Amsoil, Probably would have, but I got nervous and swapped it out. Mine just had same problem, I hosed intake down with the spray seafoam, I mean I squirted it in while it was running and choked engine with it and let it sit and then today shes back to old self.

I wasn't so much thinking it was the oil as maybe carbin build from it running so rich with the rain and all mabe a plug cracked or gone bad. But she still run strong just sound different and the front pipe is louder. Thoght I might run a seafoam tank thru it to lube up the top end.

If the engine was hot, and a little water got through, would that not steam off any carbon that was there already, and then clean the carbon from running a bit rich with a soggy filter? A hydrolock from too much water would push fuel and water past your rings into your oil. Better off with that than haveing a bent connecting rod from the pressure. 9 out of ten times a hydrolock will stall you out and/or push liquid past your rings before it will start bending metal.

I would check my accelerator pump. If it's shooting towards the front bank (which they always seem to do), then that coupled with a moist filter making an already rich condition is probably sending raw fuel down your extreamely hot pipe. I'd be loud and p@ssed off too!!!

Curt,
With two(2) Amsoil dealers or more here on the board why are you paying extreme high price for your product?
During a holiday sale I will sell product at close to, or at wholesale prices. If you like the product and want discount price for it let me know as I always respect but do not always agree with MS1700. I believe the only product close to Amsoil in quality is Redline.

Just a thought but hot pipes covered or drenched in cold rain water, maybe a cracked baffle?

I'm glad he don't always agree with me, oh boy what would I do if everyone did . I was going on Amsoil's Motorcycle Oil Test results. I don't think Red-line was in the testing. But Think about this Lucas states that their MC oil is good for up to 4 X's the service interval, That's 16K on one oil change any takers? Amsoil is the best I found with the Ea oil filter, I am going to try it next time with a K&P engineering Oil filter because I am Amsoil broke on oil filters. Running the K&P and Mobile One now. (Testing)

BTW every time someone disagrees with me I am sure to learn something.
* You can mix Lucas Oil Stabilizer with a synthetic oil, (Says so on the can)
* You can Run a DOT Approved Darkside tire and insurance can't deny a claim, (It's Law & policy specific)
* Heat really does zap a battery, (It's in the fine print)
* You can run Dyna beads and skip ruining your rim with weights. (Heck they have application for MC's)
* Venting the Gas cap is best way to vent the tank. (When you pinch the vent line, you have no vent)

The list is long.

When I am right I'll stick to my guns and put up links to support my claim, when I am wrong I'll admit it and put up links to what I found that proves I was wrong.

I'm right when I say though, that no one stands behind their oil like Amsoil. I'll run it out 8K miles everytime it's in there.
