Lisa is right, the year of your bike doen't matter. The back rest mounted rack (STR-5VP51-30-00) fits perfect on my '99. Yes, the racks will hold more then 10# however; this rack is made to be a supplemental support rack. Most of the weight is supported by the back rest, i.e. T-Bag. If you place the weight to far out away from the mounts it is possible that the rack could fold. This rack is one of the best additions I've made to my bike. It keeps with the classic look of the bike.
