Apes, Why? 2 Years, 8 Months ago
I'm curious as to why you all have apes on your bike. Is it the look, the feel, or what. I just don't understand it. Please enlighten me on why your rocking the apes.

No pun, no offense, I'm just curious.

You really have to try it to believe it! I never would have thought that apes would be so comfy... but they are... if you put them up so that you are basically sitting on your bike as if you would in your cage, then you have the same position... you can always go higher (which I did) and the benefits are better... you have to basically learn how to ride your bike over again, but it is well worth it... My brother wanted me to install a set of apes on his Road Star... I called him crazy... so I installed them and then took the bike for a test ride... I have been hooked ever since... it is more comfort than style, but the style is awesome too... just my .02...

i always thought they looked the best, but probably rode like garbage...put them on my sportster first and i decided immediately that the roadstar needed them too...mine are pretty much exactly in line with my arms, i think that if i went any higher i would hate em..so yea they give you the badA** feeling while you are driving around, your bike gets far more noticed with them, and they put you in a real nice riding position as long as you dont go too high

I have had apes on my bikes for many, many years...around 2 deaceds. I grew up around them and thought they were cool but Im telling ya , for me they are the most comfy bars around. I have crusied 700-1000 miles a day with them and no fatigue at all. They bike is more controlable and you do get noticed a bit more..which is a goodd thing in traffic. Granted they are not for everyone BUT most people who try them like 'em alot...it is a bit of a change when you first put them on but if you are compitent on a bike you will be used to them in no time flat. Everything else will feel small to you. It opens up your seating position. I felt cramped on the new Wing and on the Venture.....Comfy comfy

Baron's is right on. People that say apes can't be comfy just don't realize that your arms are already stretched out. The apes just put your hands more inline with your shoulders and force you to use your arm muscles instead of shoulder and neck muscles. Apes are going to be my winter project this year.

I don't like the look of apes, but the comfort of reducing shoulder and back strain is undeniable.

I went to the middle ground, basically just below shoulder height...the HD heritage classic bars. Love them...
