Bought a HD 2 Years, 4 Months ago
Well I did it. I broke down and bought a HD. Gave 1500 hard earned greenbacks for a 77 XLCH in pretty decent shape. Gotta love an old, leaky, mean ironhead. About got the roadstar like I want it so I decided time for a new project for the winter. Soon as I can figure out how to upload pictures I'll post some of both em. Already thinking about investing in a ice maker for the future shin splints I know I'll probaly get from the kickstart.

Had a 77' myself. Loved it except when the rear pipe fell off on the road. For whatever reason the nuts holding the thing on never stayed tight enough. Carried a few extras after the second time around. Tore it down one winter and replaced some jug gaskets, the clutch, rewired it all for the 6-bend bars and had it painted. Then after enjoying a solid 4 months with it my wife informed me she was pregnant and we were gonna need a few extra bucks for the nursery. Oh well.

I had a '76 XLCH in my late teens. XL =Sportster CH=Competition Hot(or according to H_D 'Competition-Hi Performance'... and boy, was it! Also the CH's were kick only. The few times by buddies ask to ride it I just told them if they could start it, they could ride it. No one else ever rode it.

I had a 76, mmm yeah kick only it was.

Wore my butt out pretty bad on anything longer than a couple hundred miles.

Fabulous trail and dirt track bike though.

Here's mine. I cut the swingarm and added a four inch section to it. Trails better and looks mean. Added/taken off quite a few other things too. The CH actually stands for "Charlie Horse". Because thats what you will get when that kick start whacks you in the back of the leg if your timing is not right. Or it will throw you over the handle bars. Had a friend actually break his foot on mine once. Pure muscle and power! Edit: Mine is a '74 so it's a right side shift, left side rear brake pedal.
