DC, I guess it depends on what you want. I replaced the stock filter on my '08 with the K&N filter. It allows more air in, but not so much to require any other mods, the FI system adjusts accordingly. Biggest advantage for me was the lifetime warranty and better protection for my engine with K&N.
As I understand it, yes, a BAK will make a big difference, and when combined with some good aftermarket pipes and a power commander, you'll really feel and hear that difference.
But I'll leave that for someone else to comment on.
