How to hook-up neon lights? 5 Years, 1 Month ago
|
|
I found this site: http://autolumination.com/lightbright.html and I figure I can afford wrapping the frame under the tank and seat with the flexible neon tubing for less than $25. I'm thinking 2 to 4 meters of flex tubing and the on/off switch. My problem is; how to hook it up to power. I'm not an electrician. Anyone got pictures of where and what to do to put power to the neon lights? I'm thinking under the seat where the fuses are at on the left side, but I don't know how to do that or where or how to hook it up. Will I need a fuse? Any Sparkies out there willing to help an old fart fix up his ride to glow in the dark?

And install one of these remote controls. The receiver tucks away nicely under the toll puch under your seat. Wiring couldn't be simpler, either. One wire to your light string, one to the battery, one to a ground. Done.

Let me see if I understand, and don't get me wrong, your idea is cool, but the remote has five wires and your telling me; one wire to the light, one to ground (won't that wear off dragging along?) and one to the battery? Where do the other wires go? What color goes where? Road Kill, you got to understand; you are dealing with one electircally lame dude here. By the way, my "Toll Puch: works fine; it allows me to drive through a toll booth without stopping and I don't get puched ever.

What do the instructions tell you for the Logisys remote.
I checked out the Logisys remote. It has ...
Red: +12VDC In
White: +12VDC Out
Black: Ground
Black: Ground
Blue: Antenna
Usually it's .....
Blue - leave it alone
Black - attached (splice) it to a ground wire on the bike (usually black), attach it somewhere onto the frame (unpainted portion) or attach it right to the negative terminal of the battery by adding sufficient lenght of wire.
Red - find a switched hot wire (will only work if bike is on) and splice it onto the wire or better yet run it to the positive terminal of the bike (will run if bike is on or off). The headlight or tailight hots are switched (I prefer the tailight). Use a fuse for both situations.
White - not need unless you are connecting the unit into a circuit.

Yup...the white is the wire you attach to the positive terminal on your light string, and one of the black wires is attached to the negative terminal of your lights. The blue just gets left alone, because that's the antenna for the receiver. Attach the red wire from the receiver to the positive on the battery, and the other black wire, like Doc said, just gets connected to any metal part of the frame that doesn't have paint on it (I used on of the bolts that holds the battery box in).
Hope that helps!
