Touring Seat 7 Years ago
Hi all,
I'm looking at changing the seat on my /05 R* to a better touring seat. I've read that Mustang seats are good. It sucks that you can't sit on one and see whether or not it fits your right. My dealer is suggesting the Yamaha touring seat and I think I read that it's actually a Corbin seat.

I'm 6'4" tall and I've read that the Mustang seat moves you forward about 1", which is the last thing that I need. I'd like to find a seat that I can sit on for several hours in comfort. I find with the stock seat that after an hour or so I'm moving my butt around trying to get comfortable.

Anyone out there that can help make this decision easier?

Thanks!

Seat comfort is really and individual thing What's comfortable for one may be a killer for another.

There are the standard seats that you know ---- Yamaha, Corbin, and Mustang.

You could also go with a Looney seat; there are various styles.

Or you could have you seat re-moulded by Pacific Coast or do it youself.

Sorry, but I can't help much more than this.

ThumpinV, I recommend getting an Ultimate Seat. Their website is http://www.ultimateseats.ca. It's very comfortable. I did a 600 mile ride in two days from Temecula, CA to Hearst Castle and back, and no butt problems. Last month, I did 1,600 miles touring northern and southern Arizona, and no butt problems.

Their seats are built from the stock base pans. I don't think it moves you any forward, maybe a little, but not as much as Mustang's. But being the seat is so "cushy", you'll sink back into it. The only thing is that you'll end up sitting about 1 inch lower to the ground, due to the "cushy" factor.

I had the Mustang seat previously, and it just didn't work for me. Too hard.

If you want to see some pics of the Ultimate Seat on my bike, go here:

Stelis,
I have been considering going with Ultimate Seats. I like the fact that they're built on stock base. I notice in you pics that you've replaced passenger and passenger backrest too. If I were to replace just the main seat, do you think it will align with the stock rear? Do they look different enough that it would look odd? I'm consider replacing the rear seat too in order to get the backrest but frankly for the number of times I have a passenger it doesn't make much sense.

ThumpinV, I agree with Stelis. I replaced my stock seat with the Ultimate and couldn't be happier. I replaced the passenger seat so I could get the backrest and it was the right decision. On long trips you can push yourself back into the backrest and it is like sitting in your easy chair. If your are just running around town, you can pull the backrest off and leave it home.
