pureone oil filters? 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Was just browsing Purolator web site..looking for oil filter for my 4-stroke outboard motor:: It was listed under motorcycle filters?
I was surprised when at the bottom of the page purolator did not recommend the PUREONE oil filter for motorcycles?? because the high efficiency of the PUREONE filter.. a motorcycle engine oil pump may not be able to handle the pressure? ....they highly recommend using the purolator ML filter over a PUREONE!!
I guess this may have been posted in an earlier thread?, but all I have read is RS members recommending PUREONE filters compared to FRAM filters.....

I had to paint my pureone filter black.. as someone mentioned it comes in a crappy color!

Well I guess tomorrow will be filter changing day...??

I've been using the PureOne filter on my Roadie for about the last year with no problems. Actually, I think my oil looks much cleaner at changes than with the Emgo filter my buddy at the motorcycle shop used to use on it. The Roadie oil pump is mechanical & the filter media in the PureOne is not enought to sieze it. If you compare the specs, the pressure relief valve & bypass valve P.S.I. are the same as the K&N factory replacement oil filter for our Roadies, so I feel very comfortable using it. I like it much, much better than Purolator's cheap, Chinese-made motorcycle filter & worlds better than a cardboard-filled Fram! If I weren't using the PureOne, however, I'd probably use the SuperTech; it's the best non-premium oil filter out there, IMHO.

Well, I have been using (Believe it or not) Wal Mart brand of oil filters for my Gold Wing. Reason: They are Mobil 1 filters in a Wal Mart box for half the price.

I also use the Shell Rotella 5w 40 synthetic. Of course, I don't think I will know how well it works for another 150,000 miles.....but one Goldie paid the $$$ and did an analysis of his used motor oil, and it did real well with still lots of protection left. So I guess it's wait and see.

Hey bikerbob.... thanks for that tech: information, I was just kinda suprised when purolator made that statement....and I just happened to stumble on it!!??
Any RSC members out there using PUREONE?? I think if you change the filter at regular intervals there should not be a pressure? problem:::: OBG

I run the Pureone, great filter. I just think that Purolator hasn't done the lab testing to say it's good for MC's. The old oil pumps were alot different than what bikes used nowadays. It's an old mind set that caused them to put that disclaimer in, ignore it.

Yeah, there are also "disclaimers" that say you shouldn't run car tires on a motorcycle, you shouldn't remove your Air Injection System, you shouldn't run loud exhaust, you shouldn't fiddle with your fuel mixture, you shouldn't exceed the federally mandated speed limit, you shouldn't disconnect your crankcase ventilation hose from your air filter housing & that all of these "performance enhancements" we love so much are for "off-road, competition use only"! I'm sure we all heed these "disclaimers", don't we?
