When it gets below 30 F, I put on a set of Lectra gloves, drop a D-cell battery into each, and ride for up to three hours. Hand deflectors: $80. Gloves: $30. I should have got the hand deflectors. In a emergency I have cut some out of a Plastic notebook cover and slip them over the levers with a bow in the center to grap the lever and they do work! Fresh Boarder Posts: 90 Re:Winter riding gear 1 Week, 6 Days ago   When i was off road racing most of the guys i rode with made their own deflectors with heavy gauge plastic and a heating torch, some of them made them out of laundry soap bottles (they even had different colors, and they looked like they just bought them from a bike shop) so they could ride all winter long with warm hands. Plus it kept the rocks being thrown from the bikes in front of you off your hands. Has anyone tried those glove looking things ? I think there called Hippo hand or something. Look pretty ugly but wonder how they work. I used a snowmobile suit and I never even knew it was cold out side no matter what the temp dropped to be. I also rode in Iowa when it was -10 F and had no problems.
