On the left side of the bike, between the v twin part, you will see a chrome piece just above the choke knob. What is that and can it be removed?

Are you referring to the fuel pump cover?

That would be the cover for your fuel pump. There have been those who've re-routed the fuel pump to sit inside the right-side cover in order to open up that area. Two screws underneath that cover, plus a tab at the top rear hold the cover on (that plastic tab can break, so you'd want to be careful).

I'm never an advocate for removing chrome. But, I even bought into that one...

RK, ola neighbor! You've got me looking. Seems like a good location for the choke knob. Need more detail on mounting though, if you don't mind.
