If so, that's the first I've ever heard of that...the only time I ever starved mine was without the larger needle valve, and that was doing 85 MPH up a 6% grade at 6,000 ft elevation.

Since I put the larger valve in and vented the gas cap, I wind it to over 5,000 RPM to the rev limiter all the time and have never had so much as a hiccup. And trimming the intake tube in the tank by 1/2" makes the fuel light come on with a little over a gallon left in the tank...perfect.

So I got rid of the pump today. Will vent the cap tomorrow. Rode it a bit and only starved after hitting the rev limit in 1st and 2nd gear, but it certainly ran well under normal conditions. My main question is about the fuel line. I replaced the hard line with 5/16 fuel line with an in line filter. I put the spring cover over the line. Right before it connects to the carb it is up against the fins, otherwise there is good clearance. How dangerous is this??? I don't really see any way around this at that spot.

If you haven't found a better way to vent your tank, you need to.

You can vent your gas cap, or really open up your overflow valve opening, but you need to do one or the other.

I'll trim that tube, checked price of that pingle 95.00 thats pretty strong, but it does look good and should work a little nicer, I thought that I hit my rev limiter 36a at about 114mph but when I hit 5th still sputtered for a few seconds.
