Thunder sound desire 2 Years, 2 Months ago
My bike came with cobra slip ons, along with spare stocks. The Cobras are very loud and sound like a pistol shot or some alien clapping. I have heard small dogs whine and once I surprised a group of small kids, who suspended their play and ran to their door.

What are my choices to obtain a slightly quieter, thunderous sound.

Best regards

M Khan

p.s. I also tried my hand today at the stage 1 mod. I tried to dremel out the cones on the stock, consumed 1 disc and did not obtain more than some dust and filings : Failure.

Just grind off the weld at the cone/center pipe junction and pull that puppy out. Then use a chisel or flat screwdriver and cut the inside disk at the outside. Wiggle the center pipe til it breaks out of the center baffle and you're there! They sound great.

After several tries by myself and a few R* friends I now have the Roadhouse Dooleys. Nice sound without the painful decibel level.

The Bub Big Willys on my bike are louder than I like but they have a pretty good sound.
But the best that I have heard (on a YouTube video) are the RoadHouse Classic 2 into 1's.
You should be able to find videos of both and others on YouTube.

They are loud, but I've listened to them when the mechanic at the dealership got on mine on a test ride. The Big Willies have a nice sound... Even better when its on the dyno! I would like some Dooleys though...

Do you have any baffle in the pipe? The right baffle and longer pipes can make the difference between the sound of latent power and irritating step-child.

Max

I had passed the 3,000 dollar mark on my rebuild and instead of dropping another 800+ bucks on the Freedom True Duals I wanted, I found some 'temporary' 200 dollar Santee pipes with minor baffles on e-bay, I'm not sure if they make my Star sound good or the Star makes the cheap pipes sound good, but I like it.

Here is a link to a low res video I made just after installing the Santee pipes about half way through the rebuild.
