Windsheild help 2 Years, 5 Months ago
I am convinced that a good windshield adds to comfort.
Please help me decide which windshield is appropriate for a 2002 midnight star. Secondly, what determines the height of the windshield. I am 5'7"

Thanks
ZZ

Well, I am 5'10" and had a 21" winshield... too tall. Got a 15" used one at a good price. I was happy until the weather turned cooler (39 degrees yesterday morning) Brrr. A buddy of mine had a 17"... put it on... perfect. I run with a stock seat and have a Memphis shade.

Rule of thumb is that the windshield should top out at the tip of your nose in your normal riding posture. That is where my shield is now.

Hope this helps, get what YOU like.

Everyone says get one the is just above eye level. Me I got the tall Silverado windshield. I am 5'-8" and with my home made lowers I can smoke when I ride and when the ash falls off it drops down a few inches and then flies foward the up and over the top of the windsheld. I never get a blast on my face at all.

I've got a Memphis Shade & I'm very happy with it. I've been told other brands are made with better material, but when I called them for replacement parts(I lost some mounting screws),they UPS'd them to me, no charge, with a note saying, if I wanted to pay for the parts , send a donation to St Judes. I'm sold on them

I like the rule of thumb Scotto mentioned, about the level of the tip of your nose for the top of the windshield. I am about the same height as he is and I have the medium Silverado 20 1/2" windshield which I wish was a little shorter. However, having said that, above eye level like Curt talked about certainly has advantages. Once while riding 2 up with my wife on a 2 lane highway there was an overloaded dump truck traveling in the opposite direction with rocks falling off the load. Lucky for me I saw a rock about the size of one you might pick up and throw headed for right between my eyes. Just had time to duck my head a bit, the rock hit the top of my helmet which deflected it from hitting my wife.

ZoomZoom,
I'm in agreement with Scotto about the rule of thumb. That's where the top of my windshield is vs my nose and it feels good. I would not shorten or raise it. (For me !!)
But then what do I know, I be rideing even without the old windshield.

It's really hard to say on something like this, I am 5'8" with stock seats and I have two windshields, one 17" given to me for free from my local dealer that I cut down to about 14" for the summer months and the original 17" I put back on in the "colder" months in TN. It's really what you are comfortable with, so many things come into play......

Do you ride in the rain? looking through the windshild can cause distortion of the road.

What type of helmet do you wear? full or half? how much protection are you looking for?

Are you concerned with the overall look of your bike? cool points for shorter sheild??

sorry couldn't be more help
