Please educate me on Stage 2 Pipes 2 Years, 5 Months ago
Guys, I apologize for bringing up this issue again but I need clarification.

Previously I started a thread asking what stage am I on. For pipes, I have LA Choppers, Nasty Boy Wicked Curves pipes on my bike.

In order to properly get to Stage 2, would I really need to install the Yamaha Speedstar "Competition Long Drag Pipes"?

Assuming that I actually installed these pipes, would there be a noticable difference or is it that pipes are pipes?

Thanks!

Stage Two refers to the stock pipe modifications. There is stage one where you take out the rear baffle, stage two where you drill the re-directors out and stage three where you basically have nothing in the pipe.

Reference: http://roadstarclinic.com/content/view/50/105/

If you already have after market pipes on your bike, why would you want to go through all that just to get what you already have?

Just a thought.... Unless I am not understanding the question, which is entirely possible...

actually you are not on/at any stage reffered to by yamaha.

you have open headders if there is no baffle installed. you should have some amount of baffling, if you dont and she backfires you can damage an exaust valve.

if it doesnt backfire on deceleration, then your like stage 3.5 and the difference all depends on where you like to ride the rpm scale.

cruisin & draging are completely different tuning characteristics.

donīt beat yourself up worrying `am i at stage X or Yī, cos in reality itīs just a title for certain mods in the yamaha or barons catalogue.

go with what you want to do, and the guys here will give advice on how best to set up the configuration you need, be it for cruising or road burning.

IMO mate, the `stage so-and-soī title has about as much validity as the dyno sheets that some folks wave about at bike meets.

donīt sweat it, just do it and enjoy it!
